IVF Laboratory Technician
Paragon Veterinary Group
Paragon Veterinary Group is looking for a proactive individual to join its flourishing Advanced Breeding Team at Newbiggin, Penrith, working within a cutting-edge cattle IVF laboratory that provides specialist advanced breeding services to clients across the livestock sector.
Contract: Fixed-term, 12-month contract, with the potential for extension or a permanent position depending on experience, service needs and business requirements.
The Role
The Successful Candidate Will:
- Become competent in all laboratory processes and associated administration.
- Develop proficiency in embryology both within the laboratory and on-farm/mobile laboratory units.
- Grade and freeze embryos.
- Work closely with laboratory partners, vets and satellite OPU teams to maintain high standards.
- Support technical laboratory-based research and development activities.
- Assist with stock management and reordering consumables.
- Maintain knowledge of the full IVP process and follow evolving protocols.
- Order media for all OPU teams.
- Contribute to quality control and results monitoring.
- Handle semen and frozen embryos, ensuring accurate labelling, storage and record keeping.
- Clean, sterilise and prepare ET and IVF equipment for on-farm OPU work.
- Communicate with clients regarding semen selection and embryo results.
- Produce embryo registration forms and liaise with breed societies and clients.
- Maintain databases and activity reports.
- Use VetIT to process IVF-related invoicing.
- Work closely with colleagues across the Advanced Breeding team and wider practice.
- Provide additional support across the business when required.

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous laboratory experience.
- Embryology experience.
- Data evaluation experience.
Knowledge
- Interest in and knowledge of farming, particularly cattle.
Education & Training
Essential
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above.
Desirable
- A-level qualification or higher in a science-related subject.
