Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA)

Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) is a fully formed network of The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, James Paget University Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn. This post is based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

At NNUH the Transfusion lab processes approx. 60,000 samples per annum and provides a full 24/7 service to the hospital. The department uses Grifols Erytra analysers and associated BTM middleware. Currently the department uses Telepath LIMS and are looking to upgrade this. Haemonetics Blood Tracking system is in place for the control of blood fridges and bedside administration of components.

About the Role

The post holder will be part of a larger network team led by the Network Blood Transfusion Manager, and supported by the EPA quality team.

Key Requirements

  • Advanced Health Care Scientist with experience and specialist knowledge in Transfusion Science and the requirements of the BSQR and ISO15189.
  • To meet standards required to achieve and maintain all aspects of BSQR standards as inspected by the MHRA and ISO 15189 as assessed by UKAS.
  • Ensures the Laboratory systems are functioning correctly in order to provide clear and appropriate reports in a format that allows the service users/clients access to accurate and updated patient care test results and traceability records.
  • As specialised staff they will be required to train and demonstrate methodologies to medical staff, clinical scientists, other BMS staff, new entrant staff, students and medical laboratory assistants (MLA).
  • There may be requirement to support in other areas within the service as required.
