Role: Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Technical Expert - Metrology Systems

As the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Technical Expert - Metrology Systems, you will act as the technical authority for manufacturing metrology across the Actuation business. You will lead the development and deployment of advanced measurement and inspection solutions that enhance manufacturing capability, improve product quality, strengthen process control and support long-term business competitiveness. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality and NPI teams, you will ensure robust measurement strategies are embedded throughout the product lifecycle while driving the adoption of advanced and digitally enabled metrology technologies. You will play a key role in supporting the transition towards connected, data-driven manufacturing through automation, digital integration and real-time process monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Metrology Strategy & Technical Authority

    • Define and drive the manufacturing metrology strategy, technology roadmap and best practices across the business.
    • Act as the technical expert for complex measurement and inspection challenges, supporting capability development and future technology investments.
  • Advanced Metrology Technology Development

    • Evaluate, develop and implement advanced metrology and inspection technologies.
    • Lead feasibility studies, proof-of-concept activities, validation programmes and technology deployment from concept through to production.
  • NPI & Measurement Systems Engineering

    • Ensure measurement and verification requirements are embedded within NPI, APQP and industrialisation activities.
  • Digital & Connected Metrology

    • Develop connected metrology solutions through the integration of measurement systems with manufacturing equipment, automation, MES and digital manufacturing platforms.
    • Leverage measurement data to support SPC, predictive quality, process monitoring, digital traceability and closed-loop process control initiatives.
  • Technical Leadership & Continuous Improvement

    • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams while driving improvements in measurement capability, inspection efficiency and process performance.
    • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, suppliers and technology partners to reduce variation, improve manufacturing performance and deliver sustainable business improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or apprentice trained in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, Quality Engineering, or a related field
  • Significant experience in manufacturing metrology, measurement systems, inspection technology, or a related engineering discipline
  • Experience developing and implementing advanced metrology, measurement, inspection, or automated measurement technologies
  • Strong understanding of MSA, Gauge R&R, measurement capability, uncertainty, and validation
  • Experience defining measurement strategies for critical product and process characteristics
  • Experience supporting NPI, APQP, industrialisation, PFMEA, and Control Plan activities
  • Experience leading trials, proof-of-concept activities, capability studies, and production implementation
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, SPC, and structured problem-solving
  • Ability to develop business cases and support capital investment justification
  • Strong data analysis, technical leadership, and stakeholder management capability
