Exciting Opportunity for an Advanced Pharmacist Prescriber
This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist prescriber to join an established prescriber workforce, as an Advanced Pharmacist Prescriber, within the wider Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC), Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services (ADRS), based at West Dunbartonshire ADRS.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services manage a system of care for individuals with problem drug and alcohol use in the largest health board in Scotland. The health board includes some of the most deprived areas in the UK, with the highest prevalence of drug use and alcohol-related harms. The provision of accessible, high-quality, and recovery-oriented services are an important component of addressing public health needs and tackling health inequalities.

Treatment, care, and support for drug and alcohol use are delivered through integrated working between health and social services. As well as being one of the largest and most dynamic drug and alcohol treatment service providers in Europe, our services are also at the forefront of service developments in many areas, including the innovative Enhanced Drug Treatment Service, community-based Hepatitis C and HIV care pathways, and community-based recovery-oriented systems of care.
The Role
The Advanced Pharmacist Prescriber will deliver a wide range of interventions to individuals who require support with drug and alcohol use, with the aim of improving health and social outcomes. These include:

- Review of health needs
- Medication-assisted treatment
- Alcohol care and treatment
- Prescribing and providing testing and treatment for Hepatitis C and HIV
- Providing a wide range of harm reduction interventions
The post holder will work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary/multi-agency workforce, working in partnership with a wide range of management structures, staffing groups, treatment and care services, primary care, Tier 4 services, statutory services, and voluntary agencies.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a wide range of interventions to individuals who require support with drug and alcohol use
- Work as an independent prescriber, prescribing for patients attached to their prescribing clinic caseload and, when needed, for patients outside their caseload
- Work in a variety of prescribing roles
- Provide a wide range of harm reduction interventions
Requirements
- Demonstrate working at a senior pharmacist level, working autonomously, making high-level clinical decisions
- Have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of non-medical prescribing, relevant national standards and guidelines, formularies, and CD legislation
- Have a specialist interest in working in the field
- Hold a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy and Independent Prescriber qualification
- Have active prescribing experience
- Possess a valid UK driving license
