Job Overview
CNWL Pharmacy is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and motivated Advanced Specialist Pharmacist to join our team in Milton Keynes, providing specialist clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation support across Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHTT).
This is an exciting opportunity to take a senior clinical role across two important mental health services, supporting patients with complex needs while working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care.
Main Duties of the Job
- Provide a comprehensive specialist clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation service to CAMHS and CRHTT patients and their multidisciplinary teams.
- Undertake patient-centred clinical medication reviews for people with complex mental health needs, polypharmacy, adherence difficulties, and comorbidities.
- Provide expert advice on the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medicines.
- Participate in MDT meetings, inpatient ward rounds, CPA meetings, and discharge planning where appropriate, particularly for patients transferring to CRHTT.
- Support reviews of pharmacological treatment options and, where appropriate, lead aspects of medication-focused ward rounds or MDT discussions.

As the Advanced Specialist Pharmacist, you will provide expert clinical pharmacy input across the CAMHS and CRHTT service lines. You will undertake comprehensive medicines reviews, provide specialist advice, and contribute to the development of innovative medicines optimisation services.
You will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with Consultant Psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, as well as patients, carers, and external partners.

We are looking for a pharmacist who can demonstrate:
- Significant clinical pharmacy experience and a strong commitment to patient-centred care.
- Specialist knowledge and experience relevant to mental health pharmacy and medicines optimisation.
- The ability to work confidently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent clinical reasoning and decision-making skills when managing complex patients.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
- Experience of supporting and developing colleagues through education, training, supervision, or mentorship.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent qualification)
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Postgraduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics/and or significant paediatric pharmacy experience
- Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy practice
- Portfolio demonstrating specialist knowledge acquired through training and experience
Desirable criteria
- Accredited Membership of RPS Faculty/Credentialed membership of College of Mental Health Pharmacy, etc.
- Non-medical prescribing
- Appropriate management course
- Member of College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP) or Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacist Group (NPPG)

Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Post-registration training and experience as a hospital pharmacist.
- Experience in providing Clinical Pharmacy Services to Children and Young People with Mental Health illnesses or in general or specialist paediatric wards.
- Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate, and communicate medicine-related therapeutic options to patients with mental health issues, carers, and clinical staff.
- Training and education of staff.
- Staff management experience (e.g., recruitment, appraisal, training, leadership, motivation, sickness, absence, & clinical supervision).
- Experience working within clinical governance frameworks and policy development.
- Record of achieving results against set targets.
- To have undertaken clinical audit/quality improvement projects.
- Experience of managing change.
Desirable criteria
- Monitoring and advising on medicines expenditure.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

- Clinical and critical appraisal skills.
- Evidence in writing procedures, clinical guidelines, and policy/protocols.
- Communicates with medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff in a clear, precise, and appropriate manner.
- Good presentation and report writing skills.
