Basic Function:

The Advisor, LPG Market Research provides market fundamentals, short/medium-term supply/demand analysis, and trader support for global LPG trading activities. This position will focus on market analysis for LPG cargo and vessel tracking, primarily supporting the London Trading region. Additionally, the role will handle ad hoc requests from Commercial Senior Management, trading desks, Chief Economist, Investor Relations, and Downstream. The Advisor, LPG Market Research develops a strong understanding of LPG pricing dynamics, S&D Modelling, including location spreads, time spreads, forward curves, seasonality, and arbitrage opportunities.

Supply & Demand Modeling

  • Maintain and enhance LPG supply and demand models, incorporating seasonal cycles, plant downtime, macroeconomic variables, and trade flows.
  • Understanding of, and ability to model, Steam cracker economics.
  • Utilize import/export data, shipping fixtures, and national statistics to ensure model accuracy and acceptance by the trading organization.

Market Analysis & Trader Support

  • Monitor global LPG trading positions and collaborate with traders to ensure full understanding of market exposure.
  • Identify market anomalies and communicate potential impacts on physical and forward markets.
  • Provide analytical support using fundamentals and macroeconomic data to develop a medium-term (6–12 months) market outlook.
  • Develop predictive models leveraging fundamental and technical indicators.

External Intelligence & Cross-Barrel Analysis

  • Engage with consultants, brokers, and industry sources to evaluate external market views and integrate insights into internal forecasts.
  • Collaborate with other product desks to assess cross-barrel impacts of LPG market developments.
  • Track geopolitical and regulatory factors influencing LPG trade flows and pricing.

Data Integration & Presentation

  • Support data gathering and prepare presentation materials for internal stakeholders.
  • Share knowledge across teams and drive improvements in forecasting methodologies.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects related to infrastructure changes, arbitrage economics, and market fundamentals.

Vessel & Cargo Tracking

  • Use AIS and satellite tools to monitor LPG cargo movements, identifying grades, volumes, timings, and destinations.
  • Integrate shipping data into supply/demand balances to inform trading decisions and optimize trade recommendations.
  • Identify market anomalies and communicate potential physical and forward market impacts to trading organization.

Responsibilities

  • Providing market analytical support for Commercial by using supply and demand modeling and macro-economic data to develop a medium term (6-12months) view of the market.
  • Drawing on fundamental and technical data as appropriate to develop forward global market view predictive models.
  • Working with 3rd party consultants and brokers to understand and evaluate their views on commodity movements and factor those into development of P66 market view.
  • Communicating external study results and market views to assist traders with successful implementation of trading strategies.
  • Understanding and communicating geopolitical and regulatory events/factors which may impact price movements.
  • Providing support to information gathering process and developing presentation packages as needed.
  • Sharing knowledge freely and improving peer group understanding of own niche markets. Driving improvement of existing forecast models.
  • Providing support to ad-hoc projects and analysis around market fundamentals (including infrastructure changes) to support trade ideas.
  • Gaining consensus and trust across multiple functional areas within and external to Commercial to build a common vision and direction.

Critical Skills/Leadership Criteria

Basic/Required:

  • Hold the legal right to live and work in the UK on a permanent basis without restrictions or meet the relevant criteria for employer sponsorship under the UK points-based immigration system.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline desirable.
  • Relevant experience in commercial, trading or other relevant energy industry experience.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred:

  • Intermediate level of proficiency coding in Visual Basic, Python and/or R.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in SQL and Power BI visualization.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with statistical modeling software, Access or other database software, and economic model development.
  • Working knowledge of Commercial trading businesses or global commodity trading.
  • Working knowledge of broader commodity markets (Crude, Gasoline, Distillates).
  • Working knowledge of refining/petrochemicals.
