Qualified Accountant – Business & Economic Advisory
About the Role
An established advisory practice is looking for a driven, commercially astute Qualified Accountant to join its advisory division. This role suits someone who enjoys blending numbers, commercial judgement and problem-solving to help clients across both the private and public sectors make sound strategic choices.
You'll work across a varied client base spanning Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain — helping private businesses secure growth and funding, and helping public bodies plan, appraise and evaluate major capital and economic development schemes.
You'll join a small, senior team where you'll get real client-facing responsibility from early on, and the chance to work on projects with genuine, visible impact on local economies.
What You'll Be Doing
Working with Private Businesses
- Building business plans that support growth, investment decisions and wider strategy
- Constructing financial models, forecasts and scenario/sensitivity analysis
- Drafting applications for regional, national and EU funding and grant schemes
- Analysing business performance, margins and growth potential
- Advising on expansion plans, capital spend, innovation and efficiency projects
- Running benchmarking exercises and performance reviews
- Helping clients build the case they'll present to lenders or investors
- Spotting ways to lift efficiency, profitability and cash flow
- Presenting findings directly to owners, leadership teams and other stakeholders
Working with Public Sector Bodies
- Drafting formal business cases using recognised government appraisal frameworks and departmental guidance
- Producing economic appraisals, strategic assessments and options appraisals
- Carrying out financial and economic analysis to test value for money
- Writing feasibility studies for regeneration, infrastructure, tourism and economic development schemes
- Completing post-project evaluations and wider programme reviews
- Building financial appraisals and whole-life cost models
- Supporting the development of investment strategies and funding bids
- Working with socio-economic, demographic and market data to shape recommendations
- Liaising directly with councils, government departments and funding bodies

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
