Advisory & Policy
Ministerial Services are seeking expressions of interest from talented professionals who are interested in working in a Ministerial office in the 55th Executive Government. These roles offer a rare opportunity to work at the heart of government, contributing to decisions and initiatives that have a direct impact on New Zealand communities while gaining experience in one of the country's most dynamic and unique working environments.
Advisory and policy roles are responsible for providing general and political advice to Ministers on their portfolio(s) that are consistent with the objectives of the Government of the day. You will develop effective relationships with a range of individuals, or groups including Ministers, Caucus, coalition and support parties to facilitate progress of policy and legislation within a Minister's portfolio responsibilities. You could be the sole Advisor in an office, or work with a team of Advisors in a Senior Minister’s office.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
