About the Role

You will be joining a committed and dynamic team of skilled professionals passionate about delivering positive outcomes for children and young people with sensory loss. The leadership is committed to continual professional development using evidence-based interventions so that you feel supported as part of the team and wider children's services workforce.

Our team is highly experienced and sensitive to the holistic needs of children, families, schools and settings. This is an opportunity to raise awareness of the support needs for children who are deaf and make a positive impact on their lives.

Your primary role will be as a Teacher of the Deaf working in partnership with families and settings to raise the attainment of deaf children and young people.

What You Can Expect To Be Doing

This is a peripatetic role within a centrally-based team supporting hearing and vision impaired children and young people.

  • You will be working with children in mainstream and special schools as well as in the home and preschool settings. This may include children with complex needs and children who use sign language.
  • You will be using strategies and technologies to overcome the barriers to learning for children and young people who are deaf.
  • You will undertake assessment of educational and environmental needs and provide support to meet those needs.
  • You will be working with professionals from education, health, social care and voluntary agencies to support the inclusion and achievement of deaf children.
  • You will manage your own caseload with the support of your manager and other teachers on the team.

About You

You will be an Qualified Teacher of the Deaf with extensive knowledge of strategies to support inclusion for children and young people attending mainstream and special schools.

  • You will have British Sign Language skills, ideally Level 2 or above, and experience of supporting pupils who use sign language.
  • You will be an effective team player, and a good communicator, who is able to support and contribute to multi-professional work.
  • You will have experience of delivering staff training to schools and settings.

About The Role

You must:

  • Have Qualified Teacher Status
  • Have British Sign Language skills
  • Be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post

Desirable

  • Have a post-graduate qualification in teaching Deaf children
