Job Description
Role Summary
As a Member of the Board, you will support the Chair in setting Adnodd’s strategic direction and monitor performance to ensure that aims and objectives are achieved. You will actively contribute to Adnodd’s vision and live its values through strategic leadership and constructive challenge. You will ensure Adnodd exercises its legislative functions appropriately and has effective arrangements in place to provide assurance on governance, financial management and risk.
You will have regard to Nolan’s Seven Principles of Public Life, promoting the principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. Alongside other Board Members, you will also help ensure the organisation meets the requirements of The Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrable ability leading organisational transformation at a senior level
- Ability to make sound judgements in respect of complex decisions and issues
- Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team to meet common goals
- Ability to provide independent challenge and scrutiny whilst maintaining constructive relationships
- Experience of digital technologies, specifically artificial intelligence, communication related and/or cyber technologies
- Understanding of the importance of ‘Futures thinking’; considering the long-term impact of the decisions and actions we take today on our future generations
- A demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism, with the ability to provide clear examples of taking action and addressing related issues.

Desirable Criteria
- Leadership, including middle-management experience within the wider education sector
- Experience of digital / cyber technologies
- Digital product development / publishing experience
- Lived experience of being part of a disadvantaged or underrepresented group
- Practitioner experience within an education establishment.
Welsh Language
All Board meetings are conducted through the medium of Welsh with simultaneous translation available to enable Board members and staff to contribute in the language of their choice. At present, ARAC meetings are conducted in English. All papers for Board and Committee meetings are issued bilingually.
Adnodd is committed to fostering a professional, inclusive and bilingual working environment in which the Welsh language is actively promoted, supported and normalised across all areas of work. A Welsh language skills audit is conducted on an annual basis to help understand how Adnodd can best support staff and Board members’ learning and development. Successful candidates will be offered support to learn or further develop their Welsh language skills once appointed.

For this recruitment, we are looking to appoint 3 (three) Board Members with Welsh Language skills at level 4 and above. Level 4 skills are:
- Listening - Able to follow the majority of conversations involving work including group discussions
- Reading - Able to read the majority of material in own area
- Speaking - Able to speak the language in the majority of situations using some English words.
- Writing - Able to prepare the majority of written material related to the area of work, with some assistance in terms of revision.
You should note your Welsh language skills in your application.
Interviews for the 3 Welsh essential posts will be conducted principally through the medium of Welsh, with simultaneous translation.
