AEM Backend Developer - Senior

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AEM Backend Developer - Senior based in United Kingdom.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced backend developer to build and enhance enterprise-grade digital experiences using Adobe Experience Manager (AEM). In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and optimization of scalable web content management solutions that support large-scale digital transformation initiatives. Working in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment, you will leverage modern Java technologies and AEM best practices to deliver high-quality solutions. You will partner with cross-functional teams to create reliable, maintainable, and high-performing applications while contributing to continuous improvement and technical excellence. This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy solving complex technical challenges and building impactful digital products.

Accountabilities:

As a Senior AEM Backend Developer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust AEM-based solutions while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver scalable digital experiences.

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend solutions using Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and Java technologies.
  • Build and extend AEM components, services, integrations, and administrative functionality to meet business requirements.
  • Develop and support Web Content Management (WCM) components and enterprise applications.
  • Implement and maintain integrations using REST APIs and related web technologies.
  • Work with AEM frameworks including JCR, Apache Sling, Apache Felix, and OSGi to deliver scalable solutions.
  • Manage project dependencies and builds using Maven and AEM Maven archetypes.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers and other technical teams to deliver seamless end-to-end digital experiences.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, optimize application performance, and ensure code quality through best development practices.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions, technical documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced AEM backend developer with strong Java expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within distributed teams.

  • Professional software development experience with a strong focus on Java.
  • Solid hands-on experience working with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
  • Strong understanding of AEM architecture and core building blocks.
  • Experience extending AEM functionality and working with administrative features.
  • Expertise in developing WCM components, custom integrations, and enterprise applications.
  • Practical knowledge of JCR, Apache Sling, Apache Felix, OSGi, REST, JavaScript, and JSON.
  • Experience using Maven and familiarity with AEM Maven archetypes.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX.
  • Upper-Intermediate (B2) or higher English communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and collaborative mindset.
