What You'll Do
Viasat’s International Government business unit delivers against the requirements for voice, data and video services with demand for global availability and utmost reliability. Whether a military commander on operations, a government official responding to a local emergency or a head of state conducting international affairs, Viasat provides them with essential access to voice and broadband data, where and when they need it.
Primary role purpose:
The primary purpose of this role is to lead and develop a high-performing product management team, directing the product line's professional community to deliver against the aero domain's strategic plans and growth objectives.
As an experienced people manager, the role holder partners with other leaders across the business to execute upon strategic plans and objectives, contributing to final decisions on technical, commercial, and operational matters to ensure the team's objectives are achieved. The Aero Product Line Director reports to the Senior Director, Strategy and Growth Programmes and leads the aero product management team directly, providing coaching and leadership guidance to their direct reports.
The role holder will be accountable for the team's delivery of new product, commercial, and architecture initiatives within the agreed V-Gate development framework, and for ensuring products remain competitive, supportable, and fit for purpose throughout their lifecycle, alongside the ongoing development, coaching, and performance management of their direct reports. The role holder is also responsible for identifying, adopting or adapting, and integrating products and technologies developed by other business areas across Viasat (e.g. the US Government team) to meet the aero domain's strategic objectives and optimise the value of existing investment across the business.
To this end, the role holder will focus on 5 key areas:
- Team Leadership & Development - Lead, coach, and develop the aero domain's product management team, directing groups of professional employees to achieve the aero domain's business objectives and supporting their career growth and performance.
- Aero Capability Development Oversight - Oversee the aero domain's product development, technical architecture strategy, and in-life management of the existing portfolio, contribute to final decisions on roadmap, feasibility, and Central Engineering alignment that affect the aero domain's product portfolio, including identifying, adopting or adapting, and integrating relevant products and technologies developed by other business areas across Viasat.
- Commercial Oversight - Oversee the aero domain's commercial strategy, contribute to final decisions on propositions, pricing, and commercial business cases that affect the aero domain's competitiveness.
- Portfolio Governance & Stakeholder Management - Own business case quality, and stakeholder alignment, representing the aero domain to senior stakeholders and ensuring alignment between product, commercial, and architecture workstreams.
- Portfolio Performance Management - Define the key performance indicators for the aero domain's product, commercial, and architecture portfolio, and own accountability for measuring performance against them and making recommendations to improve outcomes against the strategic plan.

The day-to-day
- Lead, manage, and develop the aero domain's product management team, setting objectives and delegating assignments in line with strategic priorities.
- Partner with other leaders to execute strategic plans, contributing to final decisions on technical, commercial, and operational matters affecting the portfolio.
- Own the aero domain's V-Gate governance, ensuring product, commercial, and architecture initiatives progress through the V-Gate development framework on time and to a high standard.
- Direct the team's roadmap, business case, and proposition planning, balancing stakeholder needs, market demand, and strategic priorities; own accountability for business cases, advocating for funding and resourcing at a senior level to realise portfolio value.
- Oversee the aero domain's technical architecture and feasibility strategy, contributing to final decisions on complex technical, engineering-interface, and innovation matters.
- Identify, adopt or adapt, and integrate products and technologies from other business areas across Viasat (e.g. the US Government team) to accelerate delivery, meet strategic objectives, and optimise the value of existing investment.
- Oversee the team's in-life management of the existing product portfolio, ensuring products remain competitive, supportable, and fit for purpose.
- Oversee the aero domain's commercial and pricing strategy, contributing to final decisions on propositions, pricing, and commercial business cases.
- Provide people leadership across the team, including performance management, coaching, career development, and resourcing decisions.
- Act as the senior escalation point for technical, commercial, and delivery challenges, applying advanced expertise to resolve complex cross-functional issues.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the aero domain's product, commercial, and architecture strategy, representing it to senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders, and presenting regularly on performance, team development, and strategic direction.
- Provide senior subject matter support for complex or strategic bids and offers, guiding the team's contributions to bid documentation and market-facing collateral.
- Own accountability for measuring portfolio performance and making recommendations to improve outcomes, ensuring alignment with the strategic plan.
- Any other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.

What You'll Need
- Extensive experience working in a product management, commercial, or technical leadership role, with advanced expertise across functional or technical areas of the business.
- Proven experience coordinating groups of professional employees.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with other leaders to execute upon strategic plans and objectives, contributing to final decisions on technical, commercial, and operational matters.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, exercising judgement to coordinate methods and techniques across senior and executive stakeholders.
- Strong presentation and written communication skills, including experience shaping strategic narratives for senior executives.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, self-motivated, with a collaborative mind-set.
- Confident and articulate with senior leaders; consistently demonstrates competency in core areas of management, developing the capability of their team.
What Will Help You On The Job
- Master's degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering, business, or commercial discipline.
- Extensive experience working in a global matrix-managed environment at a senior leadership level.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams spanning technical, commercial, and product architecture disciplines.
- Experience managing performance, coaching, and career development, with experience leading first-level managers considered an advantage.
- Experience in the commercial, business, or government aviation sector, including familiarity with airline, OEM, or MRO stakeholder relationships.
- Experience with aircraft mission systems integration.
