After-School Club Cooking, Nutrition & Activities Practitioner

Location: The Community Hub, Factory Quarter, Warple Way, W3 7DQ

Contract: Part-time, term-time only (8–20 hours/week, 39 weeks/year)

Additional Hours: Available during half terms and holidays by agreement

Pay: London Living Wage plus holiday pay

Reports to: After-School Club Manager / Deputy Manager

Job Purpose

To deliver inspiring, hands-on cooking and nutrition education alongside engaging physical and creative activities that support children's health, wellbeing and development.

As a Cooking, Nutrition & Activities Practitioner, you will bring the Nourished Routes curriculum to life through practical cooking, child-friendly nutrition education, active play and creative experiences. You will help create a safe, nurturing and exciting environment where every child can learn, grow and thrive.

🍽️ Cooking Session Delivery

  • Plan and deliver engaging cooking sessions for primary-aged children.
  • Lead safe, hands-on food preparation and cooking activities.
  • Support children to develop practical cooking skills and confidence.
  • Adapt sessions for different ages, abilities and dietary needs.

🥦 Nutrition Education

  • Teach nutrition through fun, interactive activities.
  • Help children understand food groups, balanced diets and healthy habits.
  • Encourage curiosity about ingredients and where food comes from.

🏃 Physical Activity & Active Play

  • Lead inclusive games, movement sessions and team challenges.
  • Promote physical activity, teamwork and confidence.
  • Adapt activities so every child can participate.

🎨 Creative Activities & Wellbeing

  • Plan arts and crafts linked to seasonal themes, nutrition and wellbeing.
  • Encourage creativity, self-expression and fine motor development.
  • Support children's emotional wellbeing through calm creative activities.

🧼 Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Maintain excellent food hygiene and kitchen organisation.
  • Manage allergens and dietary requirements safely.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety procedures and risk assessments.

🤝 General Practitioner Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients and activity resources before sessions.
  • Support school collections, registration, snacks and transitions.
  • Set up and tidy activity areas.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues.
  • Contribute ideas for recipes, activities and curriculum development.
  • Complete registers, planning, evaluations and safeguarding records.
  • Support fundraising events, holiday clubs and community programmes.
  • Uphold safeguarding, health & safety and the Nourished Routes values.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience working with primary-aged children.
  • Strong cooking skills and confidence leading food-based activities.
  • Good understanding of nutrition and healthy eating.
  • Confidence leading active games and physical activities.
  • Experience facilitating arts and crafts projects.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Positive, energetic and child-centred approach.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the Nourished Routes ethos.

Desirable

  • Qualification in nutrition, food education, childcare or related field.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Paediatric First Aid.
  • Experience in an after-school club or holiday club.
  • Knowledge of SEND and inclusive practice.
  • Experience planning enrichment activities.

This role is subject to enhanced DBS clearance, satisfactory references and completion of all required safeguarding training.
