Brief Outline Of Responsibilities
- Teaching & Learning Delivery: Delivers high-quality Hairdressing and Barbering theory and practical programmes across Levels 1–3, creating engaging, inclusive and industry-relevant learning experiences that support student achievement and progression.
- Assessment & Student Progress: Assesses, verifies and monitors student work in line with awarding body requirements, maintaining accurate records, providing feedback and implementing interventions to ensure learners meet targets and deadlines.
- Curriculum Development & Quality Improvement: Develops and reviews schemes of work, creates innovative learning resources, contributes to curriculum enhancement and quality processes, and supports continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Student Enrichment & Industry Engagement: Enhances the learner experience through enrichment activities, marketing events, open days and employer engagement, helping students develop vocational skills and prepare for future employment.
- Professional Responsibilities & Compliance: Works collaboratively across the College, supports group-wide initiatives, maintains up-to-date industry knowledge and upholds safeguarding, equality, diversity, health & safety and professional development requirements.
Essential Requirements
- Recent experience of teaching
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills
Quals & Education
- Cert Ed or equivalent teaching qualification
- English and maths GCSE Grade 4 or equivalent
Vetting
- Child and Workforce Enhanced DBS. A current and valid DBS under the Agency/on the Update Service. If Update Check, to provide the evidence of this check in addition to the DBS certificate linked to the service.
- Complete set of references to cover the past 3 years (and last employment worked with children if this was prior to this).
- RTW evidence.
- Proof of Address
- Confirmation of online search.
- Confirmation of health check – placement is Fit to Work.
- Confirmation of overseas check, if relevant. If not, to confirm N/A.
- Teacher Prohibition check and confirmation clear.
- Employment history from school - With all gaps in employment accounted for

Bedford College has a number of sites across the town and surrounding areas, these include our main Cauldwell Street campus in the heart of the town, our hair and beauty salon on the High Street, the advanced automotive centre on Brunel Road and the gas and technology plumbing centre in Kempston.
