Job Description
Reuters is seeking an ambitious and well-sourced correspondent to cover global grain markets at a time when war, diplomacy, trade disputes and climate pressures are reshaping global food supply chains. The Agricultural Commodities Correspondent will break news and produce agenda-setting coverage of supply from the world’s breadbasket nations to major buyers, explaining what changing market conditions mean for governments, consumers, investors and commodity market participants. Based in London, with other locations considered for the right candidate, this hybrid role reports to Global Softs Correspondent, sits within the Commodities & Energy team and requires travel to conferences and industry events.
Key Responsibilities
- Market coverage: Deliver world-class coverage of global grain and agricultural commodity markets, from breaking developments to deeply reported long-form stories.
- Breaking news: Break news on trade flows, export policies, government tenders, sanctions, tariffs, crop failures and supply disruptions.
- Enterprise journalism: Generate and execute original ideas for agenda-setting enterprise and investigative stories on the forces transforming global food markets.
- Cross-border reporting: Build deep sources across governments, traders, food companies and importers to report how they respond to rapidly shifting market conditions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Reuters reporters covering agriculture, trade, energy, commodities, shipping, geopolitics and emerging markets to deliver distinctive journalism for professional and global audiences.
Required Qualifications
- At least five years of reporting experience covering commodities, agriculture and/or trade, with a proven ability to develop deep sources and break exclusive news.
- Experience using data, trade statistics, analytical tools and multimedia tools to uncover and tell stories.
- Strong understanding of global agricultural markets, food supply chains and international trade; a track record of ambitious enterprise, investigative or long-form journalism; strong news judgment; the ability to write quickly, clearly and accurately under pressure; the ability to explain complex market and policy developments to broad and professional audiences; attention to detail; strong analytical skills; and a collaborative working style across teams and regions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
