Job Title: Software Engineer Intern
Department: Engineering & Product Development
Reports To: Senior Lead
Location: Remote
Contract Type: Internship (6 Months with possibility to extend)
Employment Status: Part-Time Internship
Role Purpose
The Software Engineer Intern supports the development, testing, integration, and deployment of software solutions across Histolyte Technologies' product portfolio. The intern will contribute to projects involving digital pathology, artificial intelligence, healthcare technology, data analytics, and full-stack software development.
The role is designed to provide practical experience in modern software engineering while contributing directly to production systems, research initiatives, and internal technology platforms.
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to:

Key Objectives
The Software Engineer Intern is expected to:
- Deliver assigned development tasks within agreed timelines.
- Contribute to production-grade software solutions.
- Support the integration of AI and machine learning models.
- Participate in full-stack development projects.
- Assist in building and maintaining internal tools and utilities.
- Develop professional software engineering practices.
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
Core Responsibilities
Software Development
- Design, develop, and maintain software components.
- Build frontend and backend features.
- Develop APIs and microservices.
- Implement reusable and scalable solutions.
- Participate in application testing and validation.
Full Stack Engineering
- Develop user interfaces and dashboards.
- Integrate frontend applications with backend services.
- Support application deployment and maintenance.
- Improve system usability and performance.

Backend Development
- Build and enhance REST APIs.
- Implement authentication and security mechanisms.
- Develop data processing services.
- Optimize application performance and scalability.
AI and Machine Learning Integration
- Assist in integrating machine learning models into software systems.
- Support inference pipelines and model deployment.
- Participate in model evaluation and performance analysis.
- Work with datasets used in AI applications.
Digital Pathology & Medical Imaging
- Support development of Whole-Slide Imaging (WSI) tools.
- Work with image tiles, annotations, and heatmap data.
- Assist in pathology AI workflows.
- Contribute to visualization and reporting functionality.
Data Engineering
- Develop data ingestion and transformation workflows.
- Support analytics and reporting pipelines.
- Perform data validation and quality assurance checks.
- Assist in database management activities.
Day-to-Day Duties
The Software Engineer Intern may:
- Attend daily stand-ups and project meetings.
- Complete assigned development tasks.
- Review and test code changes.
- Investigate software defects.
