We're hiring: AI & Automation Developer | Six-Month Contract | MTALX
We're looking for someone who can turn AI into practical business tools that deliver measurable results.
MTALX is a London-based international metals trading business. We think AI and automation can make a real difference to how transparent, efficient and fast this business runs — and we're looking for a hands-on developer to help us make that happen. This will initially be a six-month contract, with the potential to become a permanent full-time role.
Our management team has identified areas where we believe AI can make an immediate difference. We want someone who can understand the problem and build the application or tool that solves it. Initial projects are likely to include:
- Rapid analysis of costs, profitability and other critical business inputs
- Bringing together data from different systems to give management greater visibility
- Automating repetitive finance, logistics and administrative processes
- Extracting and analysing information from documents and emails
- Creating dashboards, alerts and exception reporting
- Eliminating unnecessary manual data entry

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
But we also want your ideas. A key part of the role will be understanding how MTALX operates and spotting opportunities we haven't identified ourselves.
We're looking for someone with practical experience in AI development, software integration and process automation who enjoys solving real business problems. Metals or commodities experience isn't necessary — curiosity, commercial thinking and the ability to build and implement matter far more.

We're particularly interested in results, not just technical qualifications. When applying, please give us one or two examples of AI or automation tools you've previously built: what was the problem, what did you build, and what measurable improvement did it produce? That could be time saved, costs reduced, errors eliminated, faster analysis, or another demonstrable business improvement.
