AI & Automation Engineering Lead
Bolton | Hybrid – 1-2 days a week onsite
About the Role:
We're looking for an experienced AI & Automation Engineering Lead to lead an established team of three AI Engineers and help shape how AI and automation is developed and adopted across the business.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on technically but also wants to take ownership of how an AI and Automation capability develops. You'll provide technical direction, lead the team and work with stakeholders across the organisation to identify opportunities where AI and automation can deliver genuine business value.
You'll also be responsible for establishing the frameworks, standards and reusable approaches that allow the business to deliver AI and automation solutions consistently, securely and at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading and developing an established team of three AI Engineers, providing technical guidance, mentoring and support
- Providing technical leadership across AI solution architecture, model design and deployment
- Remaining hands-on with the design and delivery of AI and automation solutions
- Developing frameworks, standards and reusable assets across the AI and Automation practice
- Integrating LLMs and AI agents into business processes and existing systems
- Supporting the scoping, planning and delivery of AI initiatives, ensuring they deliver measurable business outcomes
- Working with stakeholders to identify opportunities and shape the AI adoption roadmap
- Ensuring appropriate data governance, security, compliance and responsible AI practices are embedded into delivery
- Overseeing the reliability, performance and scalability of AI and automation solutions

Requirements:
- Strong hands-on experience with n8n or a comparable workflow automation platform, such as Make, Power Automate, Zapier, Workato or Node-RED
- Experience integrating LLMs or AI agents into business processes
- At least 2 years' experience leading AI or data science teams
- Strong knowledge of AI/ML concepts and their practical applications
- Experience delivering AI solutions end-to-end, from initial design through to deployment
- Experience establishing technical frameworks, standards and best practices
- Strong understanding of AI solution architecture and deployment approaches
- Expertise in data governance, security and compliance
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP
- Experience setting AI strategy, developing adoption roadmaps and supporting organisational change
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- A commitment to responsible and ethical AI practices

Additional Information:
Experience with n8n specifically would be particularly relevant given its use within the business. Familiarity with standards such as ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus would also be beneficial.
