Launch Your Technical Consulting Career with UBDS
At UBDS, we're developing the next generation of technical consultants and engineers. People with strong technical foundations who are excited by cloud, data, security and the opportunities AI is creating across modern technology.
Our Technical Consultant Programme is designed for graduates and early career professionals who enjoy technology, like understanding how things work and want to build a hands on career delivering solutions to real client problems.
You'll build core technical and consulting skills before joining our client delivery teams. You'll gain exposure to areas including Data Engineering, DevOps and Cloud Engineering, Security Engineering and AI enabled technology, helping you discover and develop the specialisms that best suit your strengths.
We're looking for technically minded people who want to build things, solve problems and continuously develop their engineering skills. You don't need to be an AI specialist. Instead, we want people with strong technical potential who are interested in how AI is changing engineering, from how we write and test code to how we build, secure and operate modern technology platforms.
The Programme is only the beginning. You'll continue developing through mentoring, certifications, technical communities and hands on experience on client projects, building deeper expertise as your career progresses.
What You'll Experience
Our Programme combines structured technical learning, practical labs, engineering challenges and real project experience.
You'll have the opportunity to develop skills across:
- Data Engineering and modern data platforms
- DevOps, Cloud and Platform Engineering
- Cyber and Security Engineering
- Software and engineering fundamentals
- Automation and Infrastructure as Code
- Cloud technologies, with a particular focus on Azure and AWS
- AI enabled engineering and emerging technologies
- Technical problem solving and solution design
- Agile and modern engineering practices
- Client delivery and technical consulting
Depending on your interests, skills and the projects you're working on, you could find yourself building data pipelines, automating cloud infrastructure, implementing CI/CD, improving platform security, working with identity and access management, or helping integrate AI capabilities into enterprise technology.
Alongside your technical development, you'll learn how to work effectively within client environments, understanding requirements, communicating technical ideas clearly and delivering technology that solves genuine user and business problems.
Engineering in an AI Enabled World
AI will increasingly form part of how our engineers work and what we build for our clients.
You'll learn how to use AI engineering tools safely and effectively to accelerate development, troubleshoot problems, improve code quality and automate repetitive work.
You'll also gain exposure to how AI capabilities are incorporated into modern technology solutions, including model APIs, data platforms, automation, security and cloud services.
We don't expect you to arrive as an AI engineer. We're looking for people with the technical foundations and curiosity to develop as engineering continues to evolve.
What Success Looks Like
You'll develop into a technically capable consultant who can contribute to the design, build and operation of modern technology solutions.
That means being able to:
- Write, understand and improve code and scripts.
- Build and troubleshoot technical solutions.
- Work confidently with cloud platforms and modern engineering tooling.
- Automate wherever it makes sense rather than relying on repetitive manual processes.
- Understand how security, reliability and maintainability influence good engineering.
- Use AI effectively as part of your engineering toolkit.
- Learn unfamiliar technologies and apply them to real problems.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, architects, delivery teams and clients.
- Take solutions beyond prototypes and contribute to technology that works in real world environments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
As you develop, you'll have opportunities to deepen your expertise in areas such as Data Engineering, DevOps and Platform Engineering, Security Engineering, Cloud or AI enabled engineering.
Who We're Looking For
This opportunity is designed for graduates and early career professionals who want to build a technical career.
You might have studied Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Data, Mathematics, Engineering or another technical discipline. Equally, you may have developed your technical skills through apprenticeships, certifications, personal projects, bootcamps or practical experience.
We're more interested in your technical aptitude, curiosity and potential than one particular route into technology.
You'll be someone who:
- Enjoys technology and has a genuine interest in understanding how systems work.
- Has some experience with programming or scripting, such as Python, SQL, PowerShell, Bash or similar.
- Enjoys solving technical problems and isn't afraid to investigate when something doesn't work.
- Is interested in cloud, data, DevOps, security or software engineering.
- Understands, or is keen to learn, good engineering practices such as Git, testing, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
- Is curious about AI and how it can improve both engineering productivity and the solutions we build.
- Thinks logically and approaches problems in a structured way.
- Can communicate clearly and enjoys working collaboratively with others.
- Takes pride in producing high quality work and pays attention to detail.
- Has a growth mindset and wants to continuously develop their technical skills.
You don't need professional experience across all of these areas. We're looking for evidence of technical potential and a willingness to learn.
Personal projects, GitHub repositories, university projects, certifications, labs, hackathons and other examples of hands on technical work are all valuable ways of demonstrating that potential.
Eligibility
To be considered, you'll need to:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC). This typically requires you to have lived in the UK continuously for the last five years, although each application is assessed individually.
- Be willing to spend time working from our London office and travel to client sites when required.
Many of our engagements involve complex enterprise and public sector environments, so you'll have the opportunity to learn how modern technology is designed and delivered at scale.
