About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal AI Engineer to join the dynamic technology team at Synoptix. This role is integral to our mission of applying artificial intelligence to solve complex problems within high-stakes environments. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of AI research and development, leading projects that involve object detection, neural network resilience, AI assurance, and synthetic data development. As a Principal AI Engineer, you will have the opportunity to influence the technical direction and scope of engineering initiatives, working closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders. Your expertise will help shape innovative solutions, ensuring they meet the rigorous standards required for high-stakes applications.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Developing high-throughput vision systems on NVIDIA Jetson hardware
  • Exploring AI safety and assurance
  • Providing technical guidance on various projects
  • Supporting AI engineering activities across the entire development lifecycle
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Engaging with customer representatives to identify new opportunities
  • Participating in strategic planning meetings
  • Mentoring junior engineers to foster their professional growth

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in AI and engineering principles, with a passion for innovation and problem-solving. While not mandatory, familiarity with the following skills will be advantageous: proficiency in C++, Python, PyTorch, OpenCV, CUDA, TensorRT, Git, WSL, Docker, and Jira/Confluence. A solid understanding of machine learning and deep learning methodologies, particularly in computer vision, is highly desirable. Experience with MLOps, developing AI for edge computing devices, research, and prototyping will also be considered beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, and a proactive approach to technical challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of high-performance vision systems utilizing NVIDIA Jetson hardware, including CUDA/TensorRT acceleration, multi-modal sensor integration, and real-time tracking capabilities.
  • Explore and advance AI assurance and safety methodologies to ensure system reliability and integrity in critical environments.
  • Provide expert technical guidance across a range of internal and client-facing projects, ensuring best practices and innovative solutions are applied.
  • Support the entire AI engineering lifecycle, from research and prototyping to deployment and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated solutions that meet project specifications and client requirements.
  • Engage with customer representatives to identify new opportunities for AI applications and to tailor solutions to specific needs.
  • Participate in internal strategy and planning meetings, contributing insights to shape the future direction of AI initiatives.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the team.
