As our investment in AI continues to grow, we're expanding our dedicated AI Squad and looking for an AI Engineer who is excited by innovation, enjoys solving complex problems, and wants to help shape the future of AI within one of the UK's leading retailers.

About the Team
The Software Engineering team is a well-established and highly respected function within Iceland, responsible for delivering solutions across all areas of the business.
Our AI Squad focuses exclusively on developing enterprise-grade AI and machine learning capabilities. The team has grown significantly in recent years, and we now operate in agile squads, each owning its own workstream and partnering closely with business stakeholders.
We foster a collaborative environment where ideas are encouraged, innovation is celebrated, and engineers have the autonomy to make a real difference.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building AI-powered solutions that solve real business challenges and deliver measurable value.
- Developing intelligent automations using the latest Microsoft AI technologies, including AI Foundry, Agent Framework, and Microsoft IQ.
- Designing and implementing multi-agent workflows, including human-in-the-loop patterns and agentic orchestration.
- Creating robust RAG solutions using vector databases, Foundry IQ, and agentic retrieval techniques.
- Developing predictive machine learning models with Azure Machine Learning to support forecasting, operational performance, and decision-making.
- Ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, observable, and aligned with responsible AI principles.
- Collaborating with business stakeholders, analysts, and engineering teams to identify opportunities where AI can make the biggest impact.
- Contributing to architectural decisions, technical design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Researching emerging AI technologies and helping shape the future direction of our AI capability.

What We're Looking For
We're interested in people who are passionate about AI and motivated by the opportunity to build innovative solutions at scale.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience delivering AI, automation, or machine learning solutions in a commercial environment.
- A strong understanding of cloud-based engineering principles, including scalability, resilience, security, and maintainability.
- Hands-on experience, or a strong interest, in Microsoft AI technologies such as AI Foundry, Agent Framework, Azure Machine Learning, vector search, and RAG architectures.
- Knowledge of responsible AI practices, observability, evaluation frameworks, and human-in-the-loop design patterns.
- The ability to work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to identify opportunities and demonstrate business value.
- A curious mindset, a desire to learn, and the confidence to challenge conventional thinking.
- A passion for building high-quality solutions that improve experiences for colleagues and customers alike.
