I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess over five years of experience as an AI/ML engineer, particularly in deploying NLP and machine learning models into production SaaS environments. Proven expertise in working with large language models (LLMs), including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning, evaluation, and monitoring, is essential. Strong proficiency in Python is required, especially in building APIs and integrating models into applications. Familiarity with NLP frameworks such as Hugging Face Transformers, PyTorch, spaCy, or TensorFlow is necessary. Experience working with AWS and distributed systems, along with designing and managing data pipelines for training and evaluation, is also crucial. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of data orchestration tools and best practices for deploying scalable AI solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of machine learning models for document parsing, classification, search, and summarization features.
- Integrate large language models into the product workflows, establishing guardrails, evaluation metrics, and ongoing monitoring to ensure model reliability and compliance.
- Optimize model serving and inference processes on AWS infrastructure, including ECS, Lambda, and S3, to achieve low latency and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for training, evaluation, and continuous improvement of AI models using tools such as PostgreSQL, Redis, and OpenSearch.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and QA teams within Scrum squads to deliver high-quality AI features in iterative cycles.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code practices to streamline deployment and scalability of AI components.
- Stay abreast of advances in AI and NLP, applying innovative techniques to enhance product capabilities and user experience.
