AI Engineer Intern (3 months) - Starting Summer 2027
Project Title
Development of physics-informed neural operators for coupled thermal, hydraulic and mechanical processes in subsurface energy systems.

Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Description & Scope
Develop a next-generation surrogate modelling framework capable of rapidly predicting:
- Pressure evolution
- Temperature evolution
- Stress and deformation
- Mineral dissolution and precipitation
- Porosity and permeability changes
- Injectivity and productivity impacts for CCS and geothermal reservoirs without requiring repeated full THMC simulations.
Responsibilities & Deliverables
- Understand the Existing Workflow and improve when needed (include geochemistry, improve speed of training, etc.)
- Build initial ML models (CNN, FNO, GNN, etc.)
- Evaluate accuracy and inference speed
- Connect with other software platforms
- Benchmark report
- App for building surrogate models

Qualifications
- Studying or completed Bachelors in Data Science, Computer science or a related discipline
- Familiarity with deep learning methods and coding (not necessarily the ones mentioned above)
