AI Engineer - London - hybrid working Up to £51,000 + perm benefits

We are seeking an AI Engineer to join an ambitious digital transformation programme focused on driving the adoption of Artificial Intelligence across a large and complex higher education environment. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about AI, automation, and emerging technologies. You'll play a key role in identifying opportunities for AI-driven improvements, developing innovative solutions, and helping to define how AI is adopted across the organisation.

The Role

Working within a newly established AI programme, you will help identify business challenges and design practical AI-powered solutions that automate manual processes, improve productivity, and enhance user experiences.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to understand problems, develop proof of concepts, build AI solutions, and collaborate with both internal and third-party development teams to deliver successful outcomes.

This position is focused on AI applications, intelligent agents, and workflow automation rather than infrastructure or traditional software engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop AI-powered applications and automation solutions.
  • Build AI assistants, agents, and copilots using Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI, and Power Platform technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop proof-of-concepts and rapidly prototype innovative AI solutions.
  • Create Python-based services, integrations, and automation scripts to support AI initiatives.
  • Integrate AI solutions with existing enterprise systems and applications.
  • Apply prompt engineering, orchestration techniques, and modern AI best practices.

About You

  • Around 2-3 years' experience in AI, automation, software development, or a related technology discipline.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio.
  • Exposure to Azure AI services and the wider Microsoft AI ecosystem.
  • Strong Python skills.
  • Experience developing automation and workflow solutions.
  • Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and prompt engineering.
