MUFG is seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer to join their London-based Global Markets Engineering Office. This unique opportunity places you at the heart of responsible AI adoption within one of the world’s leading financial institutions, where your expertise will directly impact productivity, client service, control effectiveness, and operational resilience. As an embedded specialist, you will work closely with leadership, process owners, risk and control stakeholders, technology teams, and data owners to design, build, and integrate AI solutions that drive measurable outcomes. What you'll do:

As an AI Engineer at MUFG in London, you will play a pivotal role in accelerating responsible AI adoption. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with diverse teams across the organisation to identify high-impact use cases for AI that directly link to client service enhancement or operational efficiency.

  • Prioritise and deliver high-value AI opportunities by focusing on measurable improvements in productivity, quality, risk management, control effectiveness, and client service outcomes.
  • Partner with leaders and process owners to assess current workflows, identify pain points, quantify benefits, define success measures, and create practical delivery roadmaps for AI integration.
  • Build, configure, and integrate AI solutions using approved enterprise platforms, tools, and patterns such as generative AI, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt orchestration, and workflow automation.
  • Ensure all solutions comply with MUFG's rigorous AI governance framework including model risk management, information security protocols, data privacy requirements, records management policies, and regulatory expectations.
  • Design robust controls into AI-enabled processes including human-in-the-loop review mechanisms, explainability features, validation procedures, testing strategies, monitoring systems, exception handling protocols, and comprehensive audit trails.
  • Collaborate extensively with Global Markets AI and the AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to reuse common components, contribute reusable patterns, and ensure local delivery remains aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Work alongside technology teams, data specialists, cyber security experts, legal advisors, compliance officers, and operational staff to obtain necessary approvals ensuring solutions are supportable, secure, and scalable.
  • Deliver rapid prototypes for quick wins while ensuring production solutions meet stringent engineering requirements as well as governance and control expectations.
  • Track post-implementation benefits including run-rate savings, productivity uplift metrics, quality improvement indicators, cycle-time reduction statistics, risk mitigation results, and user engagement levels.
  • Provide comprehensive training sessions, clear documentation, and practical guidance to users so that AI tools are used responsibly, consistently, and effectively.

What you bring:

To excel as an AI Engineer at MUFG, you will bring proven experience delivering complex AI automation analytics or workflow solutions within regulated financial services environments. Your technical proficiency spans generative models, agentic workflows, Python development, SQL databases, API integrations, cloud architectures, CI/CD pipelines, secure coding practices, testing methodologies, and documentation standards. Beyond technical skills, your interpersonal abilities are crucial—you must communicate effectively across functions, engage senior stakeholders, explain risks and opportunities clearly, collaborate with diverse teams, manage workloads accurately under pressure, and demonstrate empathy and sensitivity when guiding users through new technologies. Your structured approach ensures prioritisation according to business value, risk constraints, while your attention to detail guarantees accuracy and resilience even during challenging projects.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, or implementing AI, generative AI, automation, analytics, or data-driven workflow solutions within corporate or financial services environments.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into engineered solutions including process analysis, solution design, build, testing, deployment, and adoption support.
  • Experience working with governance, risk, compliance, information security, data privacy, or control requirements in regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of generative AI concepts including prompt design, model selection, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, evaluation, hallucination risk, guardrails, and responsible AI controls.
  • Ability to design and implement agentic or semi-agentic workflows incorporating human oversight, logging, validation, exception handling mechanisms.
  • Advanced Python development skills enabling you to build maintainable, tested, documented code suitable for enterprise applications.
  • SQL database experience including data extraction, transformation, validation, integration across multiple platforms.
  • Expertise in APIs, workflow integration, secure system-to-system connectivity supporting scalable enterprise solutions.
  • Practical understanding of cloud-based programming architecture, particularly Azure; AWS experience is beneficial.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms such as Snowflake or equivalent supporting large-scale data operations.
  • Use of industry-standard CI/CD software delivery tools such as Git, TeamCity, deployment automation, issue-tracking platforms ensuring efficient project execution.
  • Understanding of secure software development practices including data classification, access control, secrets management, auditability protocols.
  • Ability to define test plans, acceptance criteria for AI-enabled solutions covering functional, regression, model, prompt evaluation, control testing aspects.
  • Excellent communication skills enabling you to convey technical concepts clearly, convert functional problems into practical solution designs for non-technical stakeholders.
