AI Capability & Fluency Manager – Hybrid Working London and Home

This role helps Sainsbury’s unlock the value of Artificial Intelligence by building the skills, confidence and understanding colleagues need to use AI well, safely and responsibly in their day-to-day work. Sitting within the AI Centre of Excellence, this role owns the AI fluency curriculum and certification pathway across the business, from foundational AI literacy for all colleagues through to deeper capability for managers and technical specialists.

Working in a matrix environment, the AI Capability & Fluency Manager role partners with People, Learning & Development, Technology and the wider AI CoE to make AI learning practical, role relevant, accessible and connected to measurable business value.

What I am accountable for

  • Own Sainsbury’s AI fluency curriculum and certification pathway, defining clear capability requirements and learning pathways for different colleague groups and roles.
  • Design, create and curate high-quality AI learning content, blending Sainsbury’s specific material with the best partner and external content.
  • Make AI learning accessible and relevant for colleagues across stores, depots and support centres, regardless of role, function or prior digital experience.
  • Embed safe and responsible AI use throughout all learning, working with AI Governance and Assurance to ensure colleagues understand the right guardrails.
  • Partner with People, Learning & Development, Technology and the wider AI CoE to embed AI fluency into learning journeys, onboarding, role expectations and adoption activity.
  • Support AI champion networks and communities of practice, sharing learning, use cases and good practice across the business.
  • Measure impact through take-up, capability growth, confidence and application in real work, using insight to continuously improve the learning offer and connect it to business value.

What I need to show

  • Strategic thinking with a practical, hands-on approach to making learning land well and change how people work.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use insight to prioritise, simplify and improve.
  • Confident personal use of AI tools, with curiosity about emerging technology and a clear view of what good looks like for different roles.
  • High levels of curiosity, balanced with pragmatism — knowing when “good enough” is the right call and when rigour is non-negotiable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
