AI & Infrastructure Engineer
Rochdale | £45,000 to £50,000 + 25% Bonus + Benefits | Hybrid – 3 Days Office-Based
An excellent opportunity for an IT Support or Infrastructure Engineer to join a large, established organisation with a £180m turnover and 7,500 employees, as it begins to invest in AI and automation.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a solid Microsoft 365 and Azure who wants to get more involved in AI, automation and emerging technologies alongside their infrastructure responsibilities. You don't need to be an AI specialist already but some exposure to it and AI Agents either commercially or in your own time will be needed.
The Role
Working closely with the AI Software Engineer, you will help maintain the infrastructure, platforms and applications that support the organisation's growing use of AI and automation.
Responsibilities
- Administering cloud, hosting and AI platforms, including user accounts, access rights, environments, API keys and usage monitoring.
- Deploying, monitoring and maintaining internal applications and AI agents, troubleshooting issues and escalating where necessary.
- Supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure services, including Entra ID, SharePoint, Teams, permissions and Power Platform integrations.
- Onboarding colleagues onto approved AI tools, managing licenses and providing guidance on their safe and effective use.
- Supporting data connections, scheduled jobs and simple automations, with opportunities to contribute to development projects.
- Maintaining system documentation, configuration records, support procedures and recovery plans.
- Applying security best practices, including multi-factor authentication, access controls, patching and monitoring.
- Setting up and supporting devices and technology used for automation, meeting capture and digital signage.
- Monitoring platform usage, costs and incidents, identifying opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Assisting with testing and the rollout of new tools and technologies across the business.

About You
You will have experience in systems administration or infrastructure support, with a good understanding of Microsoft technologies and an interest in developing your skills in AI and automation.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365, including Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint and Teams.
- Knowledge of Windows and macOS devices and general IT troubleshooting.
- An understanding of cloud and web technologies, including DNS, hosting, APIs and basic command-line tools.
- A methodical approach to problem-solving, with good organizational and documentation skills.
- Strong communication skills and a helpful, patient approach to supporting users.
- An interest in AI tools and automation, alongside an understanding of information security and the importance of handling confidential data appropriately.

Experience with Power Automate, PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, Azure App Service or AI platforms would be advantageous, as would relevant Microsoft or CompTIA certifications.

Package
£45,000 – £50,000, plus 25% bonus, private medical insurance and pension.
Location
Rochdale, with three days per week in the office.
