AI-Native Software Engineer | Serve Legal | Fully Remote (UK & International)

Salary up to £75K depending on experience and location (salary benchmarked for the country of residence)

Serve Legal is rebuilding its Age Verification platform from the ground up — moving off a legacy, externally-built system onto a modern, in-house stack we own outright. We're looking for an AI-Native Software Engineer to help lead that rebuild, and to keep building the platform and wider product ecosystem once it's done.

This isn't a role for someone who dabbles with Copilot now and then. You'll work spec-first, using AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) as your primary way of writing and refactoring code — while owning the review, testing, and verification of everything they produce. Strong engineering fundamentals matter just as much as AI fluency: you need the judgement to know when AI output is wrong, risky, or cutting corners.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be doing

  • Migrating the AV platform domain-by-domain using a strangler-fig approach, alongside the Technology Director and CTO
  • Writing specs as the source of truth, then building from them with AI coding agents
  • Building a library of reusable AI skills/slash commands so the team's AI-assisted workflow is consistent and improving
  • Proving parity between old and new systems with automated tests, contract tests, and Playwright — not manual checking
  • Building and maintaining services on our core stack: NestJS, Drizzle, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, AWS
  • Moving into ongoing product development across our wider connected app ecosystem once the rebuild lands

What we're looking for

  • Strong hands-on Node.js/TypeScript back-end engineering (NestJS or equivalent), with real first-principles reasoning about system design
  • Solid SQL/PostgreSQL knowledge and comfort evolving existing schemas safely
  • Practical AWS experience (Cognito, S3, SQS, Step Functions, or similar)
  • Real hands-on experience using AI coding agents as a core part of your workflow — not just for snippets
  • Understanding of unit, contract, and end-to-end testing (e.g. Playwright)
  • Comfort with spec-driven development and API design/versioning
