Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The role

The Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM) Investment Risk Manager will provide independent investment risk oversight across the in-house regulated fund range, initially focused on AIFM risk management requirements for SLFM funds, with scope to expand to broader policyholder assets.

The role will support the firm in meeting its regulatory obligations under AIFMD and FCA rules, while contributing to robust risk management, governance, and delivery of good policyholder outcomes.

The role will also contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of SLFM’s investment risk framework, with opportunities to take ownership of defined areas over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead risk oversight across Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), including leverage, liquidity, stress testing and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor investment risk exposures across a broad range of asset classes, identifying emerging risks, trends and breaches.
  • Oversee delegated investment managers, ensuring adherence to mandates, risk limits and governance requirements.
  • Produce high-quality risk reporting for regulatory submissions, governance forums and senior stakeholders.
  • Support the development and enhancement of investment risk frameworks across AIFs, UCITS, NURS and segregated mandates.
  • Maintain risk registers, controls and governance documentation, escalating risk events and control weaknesses where required.
  • Represent the AIFM/AFM in governance forums and support responses to regulatory reviews and enquiries.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management and wider stakeholders to support fund oversight, manager reviews and strategic initiatives that deliver positive policyholder outcomes.
