About The Role
The Machine Learning Center of Excellence (MLCOE) at J.P. Morgan is seeking an experienced NLP / Large Language Models (LLMs) Scientist to lead applied AI and machine learning initiatives. This senior role involves designing, developing, and deploying sophisticated machine learning models to solve complex business problems across various domains such as natural language processing, recommendation systems, speech analytics, and time-series predictions. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with business units, technology teams, legal, compliance, and product management to translate innovative research into scalable, production-ready solutions. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of AI-driven financial services through pioneering research, experimentation, and large-scale framework development.
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Optimization, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline, with industry or research experience
- Alternatively, a Master’s degree with significant industry or research experience in machine learning, deep learning, or related fields
- Proven publication record in major AI/ML conferences or journals in areas such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning
- Strong expertise in natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs)
- Hands-on experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, Pandas
- Experience in designing experiments, training frameworks, and evaluating model performance aligned with business objectives
- Experience building and deploying agentic AI/multi-agent systems within regulated or compliance-driven environments
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong analytical, scientific thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment

Responsibilities
- Research and explore emerging machine learning methodologies through independent study, industry conferences, experimentation, and community engagement
- Develop state-of-the-art machine learning models to address real-world challenges in NLP, LLMs, speech analytics, recommendation systems, and other domains
- Translate research outputs into high-impact business applications, open-source projects, patents, and publications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business, technology, legal, compliance, and product management to deploy models into production environments
- Lead the development of large-scale frameworks to accelerate the adoption and application of machine learning solutions across the firm
- Drive firm-wide initiatives aimed at enhancing AI/ML capabilities and operational efficiencies
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of data pipelines, experimentation platforms, and deployment processes
- Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of innovation and scientific rigor within the team
