About the Role
We are looking for an Air & Road Freight Import Clerk to join a small and dedicated import team at the Heathrow Airport branch of our client. The role covers the full import process, from arranging shipments with overseas origins and receiving pre-alerts through to customs clearance, final delivery and customer invoicing. The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of experience in freight forwarding, preferably with hands-on import experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Arranging and coordinating air and road freight imports from origin to final delivery
- Communicating with overseas offices, agents and origins regarding shipments and pre-alerts
- Creating and maintaining job files in the internal freight management system
- Monitoring shipment arrivals and keeping customers/consignees informed
- Checking arrival times and following up on any delays or issues
- Arranging and coordinating customs clearances using ASM Sequoia
- Organising final deliveries with transport providers
- Ensuring shipments progress smoothly through each stage of the import process
- Preparing and issuing customer invoices
- Maintaining accurate shipment and documentation records
- Handling any operational issues and communicating with relevant parties to resolve them

Requirements
- 1–2 years of experience in freight forwarding, ideally in an import-focused role
- Practical knowledge of air and/or road freight imports
- Understanding of the import process from origin through to final delivery
- Experience with or knowledge of customs clearance
- Familiarity with freight management systems; experience with ASM Sequoia is an advantage
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently while being part of a small team
- Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
