Are you an aviation safety engineer looking for varied, high-impact work across military air systems? Do you want to broaden your airworthiness and certification experience while building a long-term career in a supportive technical community?
We’re expanding our defence air safety capability. Join us and support the certification, airworthiness and safe operation of aircraft, mission systems, upgrades and supporting organisations, while retaining opportunities to collaborate across our wider defence safety capability.
AtkinsRéalis is a world-class engineering services and nuclear organisation delivering complex and critical programmes across defence, aerospace, nuclear and other highly regulated sectors.
Join our established Safety & Environmental Assurance community; knowledge sharing and collaboration are at the heart of what we do. You’ll benefit from:
- Formal technical assurance, peer review and access to experienced air safety and airworthiness specialists.
- Domain Communities of Interest and professional networks.
- Regular team meetings, knowledge-sharing events and informal mentoring.
- Career development support aligned wherever possible to your experience, interests and goals.
We aim to align assignments with your skills, interests and career goals while balancing client and business needs. We welcome applicants with relevant military or civil aviation experience, including those from the Armed Forces, MOD, industry and those returning after a career break. Assignments could include:
- Military aircraft and mission-system safety, including rotary-wing, fixed-wing and surveillance platforms.
- Airworthiness, certification and safety-management support for new capability, upgrades and in-service change.
- Safety assessment reports, accident and risk models, hazard analysis and air-system safety arguments.
- Digitalisation and improvement of aviation safety processes and evidence.
Your Role
You will support air safety, airworthiness and certification activities across the lifecycle of military and, where relevant, civil aviation systems. You will help turn regulatory, design and operational information into clear safety evidence that supports certification, modification, continued operation and informed airworthiness decisions.
Support the development, maintenance and assurance of Air System Safety Cases, Type Airworthiness Safety Assessments, Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Management Plans.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
