Bournemouth Airport Air Traffic Safety Electrical Engineer

Bournemouth Airport is looking for a motivated, technically skilled and safety-focused Air Traffic Safety Electrical Engineer to join our Air Traffic Engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work at the heart of a busy operational airport, maintaining and supporting the critical engineering systems that enable safe and efficient aircraft operations. You will play an essential role in ensuring the reliability, availability and regulatory compliance of our Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) systems, Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL), meteorological equipment and associated aviation infrastructure.

Working alongside our experienced engineering and operational teams, you will be involved in everything from planned maintenance and fault diagnosis to system upgrades, technical projects and operational incident response.

Previous aviation experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from suitably qualified engineers with transferable skills from industries such as the military, rail, telecommunications, electrical and electronic engineering.

With comprehensive specialist training, competitive pay and opportunities for career progression, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills within a challenging and rewarding aviation environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Air Traffic Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, testing, fault diagnosis and repair of safety-critical air traffic engineering systems and associated infrastructure.

You will work in accordance with regulatory requirements, approved engineering procedures and the airport's Safety Management System, helping to maintain the highest standards of safety, operational resilience and technical compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Engineering & Maintenance

  • Maintain and support Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) systems, navigation aids and associated technical infrastructure.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems, including runway, taxiway, approach and stop bar lighting, illuminated signage and associated electrical systems.
  • Maintain meteorological data gathering systems and other equipment within the Air Traffic Engineering function.
  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, testing and inspections in line with approved engineering schedules.
  • Diagnose, investigate and rectify electrical, electronic and communications equipment faults using approved testing and diagnostic procedures.
  • Monitor equipment performance, identify potential failures and respond promptly to technical faults, system outages and operational incidents.
  • Support the installation, commissioning, modification and upgrade of airport engineering systems and technologies.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, technical documentation, maintenance logs and safety-related information.

Operational Support & Resilience

  • Work closely with Air Traffic Control, Airside Operations and other airport departments to coordinate engineering activities.
  • Respond effectively to equipment defects and technical failures within a live operational airport environment, helping to minimise disruption.
  • Provide engineering support during airfield emergencies, operational incidents and degraded mode operations.
  • Participate in shift working and engineering on-call arrangements once appropriately trained and qualified.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, regulators and other operational stakeholders.
  • Contribute to infrastructure improvement projects, engineering developments and continuous improvement initiatives.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
