Aircraft Maintenance Technician Apprentice

Location: RNAS Culdrose, Helston, Cornwall, TR12 7RH

Salary: £20,369.14 per annum plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Monday to Friday – 38 hours per week

Expected Apprenticeship Duration: 36 to 42 months (based on completion of end-point assessment)

Qualification: Aircraft Maintenance Technician

Qualification Breakdown

Inherent in the Qualifications:

  • Year 1: Level 2 Diploma in Aerospace and Aviation Engineering (Foundation Competence) at Camborne College
  • Year 2: Level 3 Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance (Mechanical/Avionics) at Camborne College
  • Year 3: Level 3 Diploma in Aviation Maintenance (Development Competence) delivered on-site

Application Timeline

  • Advert Closing Date: 1st September 2026

  • Interview/Assessment Date: 18th September 2026 (in-person at Cornwall College)

    • Note: Travel expenses to the assessment centre will not be covered by Serco.
    • If successful, candidates are invited to a face-to-face interview at RNAS Culdrose (date to be confirmed).
  • Expected Start Date: January 2027

  • Learning and executing aircraft maintenance duties across on- and off-aircraft workshops.
  • Adhering to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Attending Camborne College two days per week as part of your apprenticeship.
  • Completing practical, on-the-job training, tasks, and required courses.
  • Supporting the wider team’s objectives with flexibility, where needed.

Does This Sound Like You?

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

✅ Holds: Maths Grade 5 (or equivalent), English Grade 5 (or equivalent) ✅ Preferable: Science Grade 5 ✅ Must be able to commute to RNAS Culdrose and Camborne College daily

Additional Requirements:

  • Complete designated/mandatory education courses in each academic year.
  • Successfully meet all Serco essential mandated training annually.
  • Achieve certification as Yellow Belt by the end of Year 3.
  • Comply with Royal Navy Support & Serco Management System, including regulatory engineering articles.

Essential Considérations

Applicants must confirm they can:

✔ Travel daily to RNAS Culdrose and Camborne College (2 days/week during term time). ✔ Undergo Colour Vision Testing: Minimum CP2 level (proof required). ✔ Attend assessment centres and a face-to-face interview, if successful.

Due to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) security requirements, successful candidates will undergo full security checks, including criminal history verification. Security clearance up to SC (Sensitive) level is mandatory, requiring UK residency for the past 5 consecutive years.
