About The Role

JMC Aviation are working with a leading aviation organisation to recruit an Aircraft Painter to join their established maintenance facility in Biggin Hill.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing aircraft surfaces for primer, paint and striping, as well as applying primer, paint, stripes, vinyl appliques and decals. You will also carry out inspections, touch-up work and polishing to ensure a high-quality finished appearance.

The facility provides a wide range of aircraft maintenance, modifications and upgrade capabilities, supporting business aviation operators across the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to General Work Requirements and established safety procedures.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings to identify preparation and painting requirements.
  • Prepare aircraft surfaces for the application of chemicals, primer and paint.
  • Apply safety absorbent to the hangar floor and use approved stripping methods to remove existing paint.
  • Assist with moving aircraft to the appropriate maintenance bay.
  • Mask, unmask and re-mask aircraft surfaces to protect windows and other areas from damage.
  • Remove stripper, excess paint and contaminants using water, solvents, air blowers and brushes.
  • Sand, grind and buff aircraft surfaces in preparation for primer and paint application.
  • Apply putty to body dents and replace sealant as required.
  • Apply Alodine to aircraft surfaces using appropriate spray equipment.
  • Apply primer, paint, stripes, vinyl appliques and decals as required.
  • Perform touch-up work and polish painted surfaces to achieve a high-quality finish.
  • Document work completed in accordance with the Inspection Procedures Manual (IPM).
  • Perform duties in support of production, flight testing and other external areas as required.
  • Assist other employees with duties within areas of qualification.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality and productivity throughout all tasks.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience in aircraft preparation and painting, or an equivalent industry, is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation and customer instructions.
  • Experience with masking aircraft surfaces using appropriate materials and methods.
  • Knowledge of aircraft surface preparation techniques, including sanding, grinding, buffing and sealing.
  • Experience applying putty and Alodine to aircraft surfaces.
  • Ability to operate powered lifts where required.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a safety-focused approach.
