Airside GSE Charging Operative – London Luton Airport (Airside)

The Opportunity

Join our Operations team as an Airside GSE Charging Operative and play a key role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of electric Ground Support Equipment (GSE) at London Luton Airport. You'll be responsible for collecting, transporting, charging and returning battery banks, ensuring equipment is available to support critical airport operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely drive company vehicles and authorised equipment airside in accordance with airport regulations and company procedures.
  • Collect discharged battery banks from designated airside locations and transport them to charging stations.
  • Return fully charged battery banks to operational areas within agreed timescales.
  • Connect and disconnect battery banks and charging equipment in line with training and approved safe systems of work.
  • Monitor charging activity and coordinate battery movements to support operational demand.
  • Carry out basic visual inspections of battery banks, cables, connectors and charging equipment.
  • Promptly identify, isolate and report damaged, defective or unsafe equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of battery collections, deliveries, charging activity and equipment status.
  • Liaise with operational teams, customers and supervisors regarding battery requirements and priorities.
  • Complete vehicle and equipment checks and report any defects.
  • Maintain clean, organised and safe charging and storage areas.
  • Support other airside operational activities when trained and authorised to do so.

What We Are Looking For

Skills & Experience

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance and an Airside Driving Permit.
  • Previous experience in logistics, transport, warehousing, operational environments or aviation is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of electric vehicles, battery charging systems or Ground Support Equipment (GSE) is advantageous but full training will be provided.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to use handheld devices and electronic systems for recording activities.
  • Ability to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a busy airside environment.
