🔧 The Role
An innovative player in the space technology sector is seeking an AIT Software Engineer to translate higher-level test requirements into practical software, driver control, and automation solutions. This hands-on hybrid role sits between the software engineering and assembly, integration, and test (AIT) functions, bringing together UUT control, test equipment, and automation into a cohesive test environment to support fast-moving, high-tech space programs.
💡 Key Focus Areas
- Instrument Control: Develop test instrument control libraries to remotely operate test equipment and UUTs in a cohesive test environment
- Test Automation: Create scripts and test sequences for the AIT team to make complex test processes repeatable and efficient
- Software & Architecture: Derive clean software designs from requirements, build user interfaces/GUIs, and maintain test documentation
- Hands-On Lab Integration: Work directly with oscilloscopes, power supplies, converters, RF test equipment, and custom cabling in the lab
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with both software and AIT teams to investigate hardware/software issues and find root-cause solutions

🧠 What We’re Looking For
- Proven background in translating high-level requirements into software designs and practical technical solutions
- Hands-on experience developing instrument control libraries to command equipment and monitor hardware
- Proficiency in Python (including numerical libraries like numpy and matplotlib) and building/configuring interactive GUIs
- Comfortable working in laboratory environments directly alongside physical hardware, sensors, or test benches
- Strong C/C++ development on Linux experience (especially with hardware, real-time applications, or driver interfaces) is highly desirable
- A proactive, curious mindset with a strong focus on analytical problem-solving and delivering to schedule

📌 The Details
- Position Type: Permanent
- Location: Manchester or Stevenage, 4 days a week on-site, 1 day working from home
- Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 + benefits
- Clearance: BPSS required before start
