Company Description

The AI X-risk Institute (AIXI Labs) specializes in modeling AI risk factors and designing safety mitigations in the framework of Solomonoff induction and AIXI. Renowned as the leading mathematical model for artificial superintelligence, AIXI represents the theoretical maximum of AI capabilities.

Focus

If you have been closely engaged with AIXI, AIT, ML, and/or the www.uaiasi.com community, you should consider applying! There is a good chance we can find a research match, since we are interested in supporting a variety of work in this area with significant (academic-style) freedom. However, AIXI Labs is ultimately focused on pursuing our ASI safety agenda based on UAI, and we will prefer candidates who are excited about this type of work (and/or interested in decreasing X-risk from ASI). Refer to our website (www.aixi.uk) for more details about our approach.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Qualifications

The median applicant we have in mind is a computer science PhD student, but anyone at roughly this level with a background in AIT OR [an interest in AIT and strong ML skills] should consider applying. We require communication skills and clear thinking about ambiguous topics.

Structure

We plan to run this program quarterly (every 3 months) with a rolling application. Successful fellows may (in rare cases) return for later iterations. Previous applicants will also be considered for later rounds, so it is encouraged to apply now even if you can’t start right away!

Acknowledgements

These fellowships are supported as part of the UK AISI’s Alignment Project (thanks to the AI Safety Tactical Opportunities Fund).
