R_358403 – Algorithmic Underwriting Lead

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Portfolio Solutions – Fast Track team at Marsh Risk. This role will be based in London, Norwich or Birmingham. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

Responsibilities

The Algorithmic Underwriting Lead is responsible for managing the rules engine that drives underwriting decisioning across Fast Track. This includes decisions made with no human referral, underwriting recommendations provided to Account Managers, decisioning for the initial in-scoping process, and the automated bind process.

The role ensures that decisioning operates within the limits of the Underwriting Framework and delivers accurate, reliable, and commercially appropriate outcomes. Where outcomes are not binary, the rules engine should support Account Managers to make sound value judgments on the risk in question.

Working closely with the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), Technical Underwriting Managers, and the Underwriting Oversight & Controls Manager, the Automated Underwriting Lead will continuously improve the performance, reliability, and sophistication of the rules engine. The role will also identify opportunities to enhance the Underwriting Framework itself to enable greater automation, while maintaining underwriting accuracy and positive outcomes for clients and insurers.

What You Will Do

  • Own and manage the rules engine that underpins automated underwriting decisioning for Fast Track.
  • Ensure the engine supports:
    • automated underwriting decisions with no human referral
    • underwriting recommendations for Account Managers
    • initial in-scope / out-of-scope decisioning
    • automated bind processing
  • Ensure all decisions made by the rules engine remain within the boundaries of the Underwriting Framework.
  • Ensure the rules engine provides support to Account Managers when outcomes require judgment rather than a binary automated decision.
  • Partner with the CUO, Technical Underwriting Managers, and Underwriting Oversight & Controls Manager to identify opportunities for improvement.

What You Will Get

  • You will join as a seasoned professional individual contributor in Singapore retail broking team (non-specialty), who works independently with minimal supervision to grow, ensure retention and relationship satisfaction of a portfolio of clients and assists senior level colleagues with complex accounts and collaborate with other internal stakeholders to meet our target revenue.
  • Specifically you will:
    • Co-lead, maintain and grow an existing portfolio of large clients and contribute to personal and team sales targets while overseeing the portfolio of accounts held by junior members of the team.
    • Coach and guide junior team members on the account management and expansion process and intervenes when necessary to offer guidance and prevent relationship losses for at-risk team accounts.
    • Conduct and analyse research to maintain a comprehensive understanding of assigned accounts coinciding with business needs as well as core team accounts.
    • Attend or participate in presentations or sales meetings for priority or at-risk team accounts when necessary to develop team capabilities and maintain the team portfolio.
    • Identify expansion opportunities for personal and team accounts leveraging an advanced understanding of internal service and product offerings, market trends and developments and the business standing of specific accounts.
    • Define the strategy for custom solution development for the team portfolio for the designated geographies, communicating product and solution, sales targets, remuneration and pricing expectations.
    • Attend and participate in industry events and conferences and client functions to build up a strong professional network, maintain proximity to the relevant market and represent the Company and its product offerings and solutions.

What We Expect From You

  • Research on changes in the insurance and clients’ market and identify the potential risks.
  • Take on a leading role within the business as a mentor and subject matter expert.
  • Be the face of Marsh to our large and complex clients.
  • Analyse and formulate insights on client challenges through data analysis.
  • Evaluate internal products and services to tailor to clients’ solutions.
  • Collaborate extensively with Business Development, Placement and Operations for day-to-day functions and wider stakeholders to align with our growth ambition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline.
  • Attained minimum Certificate in General Insurance (CGI). ANZIIF or ACII will be an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years' prior experience in the insurance industry including 5 years’ experience in retail broking.
  • Relevant experience in Property and Casualty insurance in Singapore market preferred.
  • Excellent people management, time management, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
