Company Description
Forge provides flexible, relationship-led support for young people aged 5–18 who are not attending school or who struggle to engage with full-time education. The organization works closely with families, schools, and other professionals to help each young person take positive next steps. Support is tailored to individual needs, focusing on building confidence, independence, and long-term wellbeing. Forge’s collaborative approach aims to create a safe, consistent environment where young people can re-engage with learning and personal development.
Role Description
The Alternative Provision Practitioner is a full-time, on-site role based in Wimborne Minster. In this position, the practitioner provides structured, individualized support to young people who are not currently thriving in mainstream education, helping them re-engage with learning and develop essential life skills. The role also involves:
- Safeguarding responsibilities
- Attending team meetings
- Participating in ongoing training to enhance practice
Qualifications
- Experience working directly with children and young people who have barriers to education, including those with social, emotional, or behavioral needs.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment and establish trust with young people and families.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, individualized activities that support personal, social, and academic development.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with families, schools, and multi-agency professionals.
- Good organizational and record-keeping abilities, including maintaining accurate notes and contributing to support plans and reviews.
- Understanding of safeguarding principles and willingness to follow all relevant policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
- Resilience, patience, and adaptability when supporting young people with complex or changing needs.
- Relevant experience in education, youth work, social care, or a related field; formal qualifications in these areas are beneficial but not strictly required.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
- Ability to work on-site in Wimborne Minster and travel locally as needed for outreach or partnership work.
