Job Description
Support people through mental health challenges and help shape better lives across our borough
In this vital role, you’ll work directly with residents, offering care, guidance and crisis support that makes a real difference in their lives. Whether you're coordinating support plans or responding to urgent needs, your work will have a lasting impact on individuals, families and the wider community.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll work directly with adults and young people who are experiencing mental health difficulties, considering whether or not they require a formal assessment under the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA), or whether other least restrictive options are available or appropriate.
- Responding in a timely manner to any MHA requests, managing risks and liaising with other partner agencies in planning any appropriate interventions to ensure that the person and any other parties are safely managed.
- Responding to any urgent referrals that may require to be seen on the day, coordinating the assessment and providing appropriate interventions to meet the needs of the person at that time.
- Attending assessments and acting independently in urgent, high-stakes situations.
- We regularly have referrals from the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, the local national Eating Disorder Service Vincent square, as well as local CAMHS inpatient wards.
- Completing statutory work in a timely manner, attending court for s135(1) warrants, ensuring that a team approach is applied, contributing to the allocated work and ensuring that the service is run both safely and responsive.
- Having the opportunity to be a Practice Assessor for AMHP Trainees and support newly qualified AMHPs on the rota.
- Linking in with partner agencies and having the opportunity to provide guidance and support to partner agencies.

What You’ll Bring
You’re a registered Social Worker with Social Work England, with relevant qualifications and experience in adult mental health settings as an AMHP. You’ve worked with people facing a range of mental health challenges, including complex or enduring conditions, and you understand how to balance their rights, needs and risks. You have practiced as an AMHP for a minimum of two years with a variety of experience and knowledge with supporting people who may present in crisis and you will need to consider the case under the MHA 1983 s13(1) statutory duties.
