About the AML Analyst Role

The AML Analysts work closely with the Senior AML Manager and Directors of Non-US Risk & Compliance to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations across:

  • London (UK) & Cambridge
  • Paris
  • Luxembourg
  • Hong Kong

This role involves:

  • Collaboration with Money Laundering Reporting Officers in London, Paris, and Hong Kong.
  • Engagement with the Conflicts teams in London and Boston.
  • Identifying and escalating AML risks to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Assistance with ad hoc AML queries and compliance project work.

This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for law graduates (or equivalent) looking to begin their career in compliance.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct client due diligence:
    • Identify clients and obtain information on existence and ownership structures using sources such as Mint Global, Companies House, Capital IQ, Lexis/Nexis Corporate Affiliations, and internet research.
    • Liaise with partners, associates, and clients to gather additional documentation unavailable from public sources.
  • Risk assessment:
    • Complete risk assessments for clients and matters.
    • Flag high-risk clients and escalate findings to Money Laundering Reporting Officers.
  • Client due diligence control:
    • Ensure new client/matter openings meet all internal and external requirements.
  • Ongoing monitoring compliance:
    • Advise on maintaining adherence to regulatory requirements for clients and matters.
  • Client screening & reputational risk:
    • Review prospective clients to assess reputational risks and sanctions concerns against the firm’s risk appetite.
  • Policy & procedure updates:
    • Assist with continuously evolving protocols for new client intake, AML, CTF, and compliance-related areas.
  • Training & education:
    • Lead periodic training sessions on AML processes and legislation for the team, department, or firm.
    • Educate colleagues on international AML legislation and compliance procedures.
    • Support new joiner onboarding.

Who You Are

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge or willingness to learn the:
    • UK Money Laundering Regulations 2017 (and amendments)
    • 4th & 5th EU Anti-Money Laundering Directives
    • Upcoming 6th EU AML Directive
    • Law Society of Hong Kong’s Practice Direction P (or equivalent jurisdiction)
  • Familiarity with:
    • Types of corporate, partnership, and trust entities.
    • Compliance policy application and procedural adherence.
  • Communication proficiency: Demonstrated ability to engage professionally and tactfully across all levels of the firm.
  • Resilience & adaptability for a fast-paced environment handling:
    • A high workload.
    • Prioritised attention to detail.
  • Sound judgement in decision-making but with awareness of escalation needs.
  • Flexibility to adapt to new processes, tools, and evolving situations.
  • Law degree or Graduate Diploma in Law (essential).
  • Legal Practice Course (LPC) preferred. Equivalent qualifications from other common law jurisdictions considered.

Preferred Experience

  • Client due diligence experience (AML, sanctions, or compliance).
  • Knowledge of Money Laundering Regulations 2017, EU AML Directives, or Law Society of Hong Kong’s professional guidance.
  • Hands-on experience with company searches, Mint Global, Capital IQ, and Lexis/Nexis Corporate Affiliations.
