AML Investigator
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AML Investigator based in United Kingdom.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a modern financial ecosystem by strengthening compliance operations within a fast-growing digital asset environment.
You will investigate suspicious activity, analyze transaction patterns, and support critical anti-money laundering initiatives.
The position combines financial crime expertise, blockchain analysis, and emerging AI-powered investigation tools.
You will work on complex cases requiring strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
Collaborating with compliance, operations, and cross-functional teams, you will help improve risk detection and regulatory processes.
This is an opportunity to take ownership, influence compliance practices, and grow within an innovative remote-first environment.
Accountabilities
The AML Investigator will play a key role in monitoring transactions, investigating potential risks, and maintaining strong compliance standards. This position requires a hands-on approach to case analysis, documentation, and continuous improvement of investigation processes.
- Review and disposition transaction monitoring alerts related to potential money laundering, fraud, structuring, sanctions concerns, and unusual activity.
- Conduct blockchain investigations by tracing transaction activity, analyzing wallet behavior, and assessing on-chain counterparty exposure.
- Prepare investigation reports, case summaries, evidence packages, and documentation supporting suspicious activity determinations.
- Support suspicious activity reporting processes by contributing clear and accurate narratives based on investigative findings.
- Use AI-powered investigation tools to improve efficiency, identify patterns, and enhance investigative workflows.
- Identify and escalate suspicious behaviors or compliance risks according to internal AML and fraud policies.
- Support broader compliance operations, including onboarding reviews, screening activities, complaints, remediation efforts, and external information requests.
- Maintain accurate audit trails and ensure investigative decisions are properly documented and defensible.
- Collaborate with compliance and operational teams to strengthen risk management processes.
- Contribute ideas and improvements to evolving compliance programs and investigative methodologies.

Requirements
The ideal candidate has experience in AML, financial crime, fraud investigations, or digital asset compliance, with strong analytical capabilities and the ability to work independently in a remote environment. You should be comfortable handling complex investigations, documenting findings clearly, and adapting to evolving regulatory and technological landscapes.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in AML, financial crime, fraud investigations, or related compliance functions.
- At least 1 year of experience conducting blockchain or digital asset investigations, preferably in a high-volume environment.
- Ability to trace cryptocurrency transactions and analyze blockchain activity, including understanding limitations of on-chain analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail when reviewing transaction data, public records, and customer information.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to create clear investigative narratives and audit documentation.
- Working knowledge of AML regulations, financial crime risks, sanctions principles, and common money laundering typologies.
- Experience using blockchain analytics platforms such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with KYC systems, case management platforms, open-source intelligence tools, and customer support platforms such as Zendesk.
- Interest in adopting AI-powered tools and workflows to improve investigation quality and efficiency.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining a strong team-oriented approach in a remote environment.
- High level of urgency, ownership, and adaptability in a fast-paced setting.
- Fluency in English is required; additional languages are considered an advantage.
- Knowledge or experience with Lightning Network transactions and related investigations is a plus.
