Description
At Sumer we have the ambition to deliver a KYC/AML programme that is modern, slick and technology-enabled to enable us to meet our regulatory obligations. Sumer’s AML senior manager will support the delivery of the Sumer’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), sanctions and client due diligence (CDD) framework. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and drive continual improvement of Sumer’s controls. The role will play a key part in driving improvements through the centralisation of AML/KYC processes, working closely with the Head of Compliance, Head of Quality and Assurance and Head of Risk and Regulation as well as the change management lead.
This role is would be based on a remote basis but ideally located in Leeds or Manchester
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and continuously enhance Sumer's AML compliance programme across all hubs, ensuring consistent standards, policies and best practice.
- Oversee all aspects of client due diligence, including CDD, enhanced due diligence (EDD), ongoing monitoring, sanctions screening, and high-risk client reviews.
- Act as the firm's AML and financial crime subject matter expert, providing practical guidance on complex client acceptance, beneficial ownership, and source of wealth/funds matters.
- Ensure compliance with Money Laundering Regulations and professional body requirements, maintaining AML policies, procedures and firm-wide risk assessments.
- Partner with Quality & Assurance to prepare for regulatory inspections, manage remediation activities, and liaise with regulators and professional bodies where required.
- Identify emerging financial crime risks, support wider enterprise risk initiatives, and drive continuous improvement and automation across AML processes.
- Lead, develop and inspire the AML team, while delivering training and coaching to partners and colleagues to promote a strong culture of compliance.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Significant AML/KYC experience within professional services, banking or legal services
- Strong knowledge of the UK, South Africa financial crime regulatory environments
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Strong judgement and ability to handle sensitive/confidential matters
- Experience managing complex AML investigations
- Proven people management experience
