About the Role

The operating theatres at UHL provide elective and emergency services 24/7 in:

• Orthopaedics
• Colorectal
• General
• Gynaecology
• Urology
• ENT
• Paediatrics
• Bariatrics
• Trauma
• CEPOD
• Obstetrics

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Safety: Ensure the correct equipment is always available throughout the patient journey in theatre.
• Direct Patient Care: As an anaesthetic nurse/ODP, provide direct patient care prior and during anaesthesia. Assist the anaesthetists in the provision of anaesthetics. Prepare equipment and monitoring.
• Team Participation: Participate in establishing a positive working environment in which patients receive a high standard of care delivery.
• Clinical Governance: Utilise the principles of the national framework and local strategy of Clinical Governance and other national initiatives to participate in action on improvements in patient care.
• Compliance: Carry out all duties in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery (NMC) Codes of Conduct, Health Care Professional Council (HCPC) and Relevant Trust policies.
• Care Delivery: Personally deliver a high standard of care to patients and participate in assessing, planning, and evaluation of individualised patient care.
• Leadership: Act as team leader where required and a clinical role model at all times.
• Safety: Ensure that all patients are cared for in a safe environment and maintain the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors in line with Health and Safety guidelines.
• Policy Adherence: Personally act within and ensure adherence to all Trust and Departmental policies and procedures.
• Medication Management: Participate in the care, custody, and administration of medicines in accordance with Trust and local policy.
• Guidance and Support: Assist the Theatre and Recovery Co-ordinator in providing advice, guidance, support, and professional leadership for all clinical staff in the theatre department. Assist in developing the department philosophy and framework of care in line with unit/organisational and beliefs/values.
• Health Information: Ensure the provision of advice, support, and health information to patients and their carers to promote a health-based service.
• Workload Management: Ensure the workload of colleagues does not jeopardise safe standards of practice and initiate action if necessary.
• Equipment Maintenance: Participate in the daily checking and maintenance of essential equipment.
• Transportation: Transports/manages people and/or items such as equipment or specimens safely and on time consistent with legislation, policies, and procedures.
