Global Compliance

Job Description

Norton Rose Fulbright is a global law firm with more than 3,000 lawyers advising clients across locations in the United States, Europe, Canada, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. We provide a full scope of legal services to the world’s preeminent corporations and financial institutions.

Our vision is to be a world class business, profitable, ambitious, cooperative and considerate, supporting our clients and people through our global business principles of Quality, Unity and Integrity. We apply our business principles to all our activities world-wide. They describe our culture and personality both internally and externally, the way we work and what we stand for.

The Role

The role is based in Newcastle UK and forms part of a new consolidated Global New Business Risk Team (“GNBRT”). It reports directly to the Global New Business Risk Manager (Newcastle, UK). The team ultimately reports to the Head of Global New Business Risk (London, UK).

GNBRT is responsible for carrying out CDD & risk assessment procedures for new and existing clients of the global firm. Members of the GNBRT will continue to work in close co-operation with colleagues in regional business acceptance and conflicts teams to deliver as seamless and efficient service as possible.

The function operates on a “follow the sun” model which requires the team to handle a CDD and risk assessment workload originating outside of your home region. Training on international requirements (regulatory, systems and technical) will be provided.

This is a 12 month FTC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out CDD and risk assessments on low and medium risk new and existing clients in line with firm policy and applicable anti-money laundering and regulatory obligations, and advising partners, lawyers and the Regional Compliance Teams in relation to the same.
  • Assessing strategic fit, reputational, and sanctions exposure of clients and providing advice to partners, attorneys, and the Regional Compliance Teams as to appropriate risk mitigation steps (following internal escalation).
  • Managing own and shared priorities, ensuring all requests and offline enquiries are handled promptly.
  • Screening new and existing clients for increased risk indicators, including but not limited to, sanctions exposure, PEP exposure and reputational risk exposure.
  • Ensuring clients posing perceived increased risks are escalated appropriately in line with firm policy and regulatory requirements, making informed suggestions as to the appropriate course of action required.
  • Take ownership of requests and enquiries, carrying out a full risk analysis and liaising with the various stakeholders to the matter, including Partners and associates, communicating the progress of the matter at all stages to the interested parties.
  • Work to develop an understanding of the Firm’s key strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at all levels in Regional Compliance Teams to ensure consistent workflow and timely production.
  • Undertake any other projects and tasks as directed by the Global New Business Risk Manager or the Head of Global New Business Risk.
  • Collaborate with team members in all regions to work to find pragmatic solutions to issues that arise.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
