Chemtech Environmental
Who we are
At Chemtech Environmental, we like to think of ourselves as an extension of your team — the kind that adds value without adding hassle (and yes, the sample containers are free). We keep things simple, personal and practical, offering tailored solutions and responsive support through our network of regional laboratories. With years of industry experience behind us, we help clients get the answers they need, make smart decisions and keep projects moving — all while sweating the small stuff so they don’t have to.

Job details
At Chemtech Environmental, we like to keep things simple: great science, accurate results and brilliant service.
We provide environmental testing and analytical services to customers across a wide range of industries, combining technical expertise with a genuinely personal approach. We’re big enough to deliver, but still small enough to sweat the small stuff.
We’re looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our team and support the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory. This is a varied, hands on role covering everything from sample preparation and basic chemical analysis through to equipment checks, sample storage and even occasional site sampling.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

If you’re organised, practical, detail-focused and don’t mind getting stuck in, we’d love to hear from you.
What you will do
No two days will look exactly the same, but your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and processing soil, water and other environmental samples ready for laboratory analysis.
- Carrying out basic chemical analysis and accurately updating worklists, preparation logs and sample records.
- Managing sample storage, subsampling, fixing and disposal in line with laboratory procedures.
- Carrying out soil sampling and supporting water monitoring activities at customer sites when required.
- Completing daily equipment checks, calibrations, temperature monitoring and basic troubleshooting or maintenance.
- Supporting internal and external quality control activities, including AQC materials, contamination checks, proficiency testing and non-conforming work investigations.
- Maintaining stock levels, good housekeeping and effective communication with customers and colleagues across the business.

You don’t necessarily need years of laboratory experience. We’re looking for someone with the right attitude, attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths, with a basic understanding of chemistry desirable.
- Strong attention to detail with good organisational and time-management skills.
- Confident verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work independently using good judgement, while also being a supportive team player.
- Reliable, self-motivated and comfortable working to deadlines in a busy environment.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, with laboratory or environmental sample experience desirable.
- Flexible, positive and hands-on, with a willingness to learn and get involved where needed.
