About the Role
Bryden Wood's analytical work sits at the interface of technology, engineering and strategic investment decision-making — and it is one of the things that most clearly differentiates us from conventional engineering consultancies.
SAINT (Systemisation for the Acceleration of the Introduction of New Technologies) is Bryden Wood’s most rapidly growing and intellectually distinctive business unit, carrying out early-stage capital project design and due diligence studies for leading companies in life sciences, green energy and chemicals, and nuclear.
We are looking for someone who brings rigorous, credible analysis and modelling — and external reference points — to a function that is growing rapidly, and who is as comfortable in a client conversation as in a spreadsheet.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and interrogate quantitative models to support early-stage investment decisions, drawing on whichever analytical techniques the question demands — statistical, economic, or simulation-based
- Build facility capacity models to support plant sizing, throughput analysis, and investment phasing decisions
- Conduct market analysis and technology landscape assessments to inform strategic positioning and investment rationale
- Where relevant, develop techno-economic models for new process technologies — assessing capital costs, operating costs, and economic viability across scenarios
- Develop logistics and supply chain models relevant to process facility design and operation
- Work closely with systems chemical engineers and architects to integrate analytical insight into broader study deliverables
- Contribute to the development of SAINT's analytical methods, tools, and templates

Technical Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Established track record of analysis and modelling work within the life sciences, energy, chemicals, or related process industries
- Strong proficiency in Excel for modelling and Python for data analysis and automation
- Ability to communicate quantitative analysis clearly — translating model outputs into strategic insight for non-technical audiences
- Comfort working in early-stage, ambiguous environments
- External reference points from outside the immediate team are essential — we are looking for someone who brings perspective the function does not currently have
Desirable
- Techno-economic or financial modelling experience relevant to capital investment decisions
- Experience in early-stage capital project analysis — feasibility, FEL, or pre-FEED studies
- Familiarity with PowerBI or Tableau for data visualisation
- Knowledge of green chemistry, energy transition technologies, or pharmaceutical manufacturing economics
- Experience working with US clients or in the US market
- Exposure to discrete event simulation or logistics modelling

Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in data science, mathematics, a physical or life science, or an engineering discipline. The specific field matters less than the ability to build rigorous quantitative models and apply them to complex process and investment decisions
- Sufficient post-qualification experience to bring genuine external reference points — ideally from a big pharma engineering function, tier-one EPC, or management consultancy with capital project analytics experience
