Laboratory Technician

As a Laboratory Technician, you will provide analytical and technical support to ensure the safe and continuous operation of site facilities while delivering accurate laboratory results that support product quality and product certification requirements.
You will report to the Analytical Team Leader and be located at Westinghouse Fuels within the Chemical & Metallurgical Services Department (C&MSD) laboratories at Springfields.
Responsibilities:
- Perform analytical and physical testing activities on fuel products, uranium recovery process samples, and other laboratory sample matrices.
- Conduct laboratory analysis using techniques including XRF spectroscopy, pH measurement, Karl Fischer analysis, UV-VIS spectrometry, and Ion Selective Electrode (ISE) analysis.
- Record and report analytical results following laboratory procedures and quality requirements.
- Support product certification activities to ensure compliance with required specifications.
- Operate in accordance with UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation and NQA-1 quality assurance requirements.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and contribute to the safe operation of laboratory facilities.
- Complete training across analytical techniques and laboratory operations within the shift laboratory environment.
- Develop the knowledge and competence required to achieve Duly Authorised Person (DAP) and Building Controller authorisations.
- Provide analytical support to site operations through the completion of laboratory testing activities.

Qualifications:
- Part-qualified professional with typically 2-5 years of relevant experience.
OR
- HND, BTEC, HTEC, or equivalent technical qualification with typically at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- We may consider relevant industry experience in lieu of formal qualifications where appropriate.
- Experience with COSHH requirements.
- Experience working within a quality control laboratory operating to ISO 17025 and/or ISO 9001 standards.
- Sample preparation techniques such as acid digestion and fusion.
- Knowledge of analytical techniques including X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), gravimetric analysis, titration, Ion Selective Electrode (ISE) analysis, and physical testing methods.
- Experience performing physical testing such as particle size analysis by sieving, specific surface area, flowability, and density measurements.
- Experience performing instrument calibration activities.
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues and escalate them to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Experience recording and reporting results using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Experience using software applications associated with laboratory instrumentation.
