Analytics Engineer - Contract
£310 per day, inside IR35 | Fully remote (UK) | ~6 months, extension likely
My client is a major UK business, looking for an Analytics Engineer to join their data engineering function. The team is mid-transition: Qlik Sense today, with Looker being onboarded over the coming months and visualisation migrating across.
The role
You'll be the bridge between the data and the business. You'll take a high-level objective, work out what the underlying business problem is, dig into the data, and write the SQL procedures that produce the analytical outputs the business consumes.
This isn't platform or capability building. It's applied SQL, analytical thinking, and getting answers in front of people.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What you'll need
- Excellent SQL - this is the core of the role. ETL is done in SQL, and you'll be writing procedures to create analytical datasets
- BigQuery / GCP, or transferable data warehouse experience
- A BI and visualisation background - Qlik, Power BI, Tableau or Looker. The tool matters far less than the underlying modelling and visualisation skill
- An analyst's understanding of data combined with engineering discipline. Git and CI/CD are in daily use
- The ability to sit with a stakeholder, understand the business problem and hold the conversation

How you'll work
You'll be given objectives rather than task lists, so this suits someone who works out what needs doing, identifies gaps, and flags blockers early. Self-starting, proactive and visible - online, at standups, asking questions.
